Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY
Prepares preliminary and final maps, plans, drawings, exhibits and digital data files using appropriate CAD drafting programs. Complexity of production will vary depending on skill level of designer/operator.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Develop detailed grading plans and specifications to ensure proper drainage, slope stability, and site accessibility.
Perform calculations to balance earthwork and minimize costs.
Implement erosion and sediment control measures to protect the site during and after construction.
Using basic design and engineering principles, prepares street, sewer, water, storm drain, grading and other engineering maps, exhibits and drawings as directed.
Makes updates to drawings and updates CAD files as directed by project engineers and/or land development team management. Responsible for daily backup of CAD drawings.
Works with standard CAD specifications, formats, and base files that are required by various private firms and government agencies. Enlarges or reduces drawings to fit specific sale.
Prepares drawings to Agency and/or Hunsaker LA graphic standards.
Maintains CAD files and database for land development group as directed in accordance with Hunsaker LA CADD Standards.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Enhance knowledge and skills of CAD-related technology to optimize services and support to land development team.
Depending on level of expertise may assist in providing support to CAD users.
Other responsibilities as may be required.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and abilities required for this position.
An Associates Degree in CAD Technology or related field, or equivalent experience.
Three to five years’ experience in computer aided drafting preferably with a civil engineering firm or other engineering disciplined firm.
Knowledge of basic computer aided design and engineering terms, procedures and processes. Specialized training in CAD desirable.
Working knowledge of Word, Excel, and Microsoft Office Products.
Working knowledge of high school level mathematics and ability to make calculations.
Good written and verbal communication skills and ability to understand and follow directions of a technical nature.
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a multi-task team environment.
Direct experience in civil land development
Experience with hydrology, storm drains, sewers, earthwork
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment characteristics described in the functions outlined above are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the job responsibilities of this position. There is heavy keyboard activity. Concentrated work involving mathematical calculations and work of a technical nature is required. Must be able to follow written and verbal directions.
LEVEL OF RESPONSIBILITY/SUPERVISION
The CAD designer reports to a project manager. S/he may take direction from one or more additional project manager(s) or engineers. CAD designers with higher levels of knowledge may support CAD manager is providing user support. Depending on level of expertise, supervision will be detailed or limited. Progress of production is reviewed on a regular basis.

PAY RANGE: $90,000-$120,000 annually
