Senior Product Engineer – Advanced Machinery & Metal-Cutting Equipment

Metro Detroit, MI

A manufacturing company in Metro Detroit is looking for a Senior Product Engineer to lead the design, development, and continuous improvement of precision machinery and metal-cutting systems.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead product design initiatives from concept through launch, ensuring technical, cost, and timeline targets are met

Collaborate with manufacturing, supply chain, and quality teams to drive design feasibility and performance

Create and manage detailed engineering documentation, including drawings, BOMs, and specifications

Support R&D efforts by recommending new materials, components, and innovative design improvements

Conduct and participate in design reviews, FMEA, FEA, and other quality-focused activities

Provide technical input for project estimates and customer quotes

Ensure all designs comply with internal standards, customer expectations, and regulatory requirements

Support standard product lines through troubleshooting and ongoing improvement

Communicate directly with customers to address technical issues and improve product satisfaction

Identify opportunities to reduce cost and improve product functionality; share recommendations with engineering leadership

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience

7–10+ years in a machine tool or high-precision manufacturing environment (metal-cutting preferred)

Deep understanding of mechanical systems, including:

Ball screws, linear guides, bearings

Gear drives and power transmission systems

High-speed spindles, linear motors, and tooling

Hydraulic and pneumatic systems

Modal analysis (FFR), lubrication, and thermal management systems

Strong hands-on skills and problem-solving abilities
