Job Title: Sign Shop Technician
Schedule: 6:00 AM – 3:00 PM
Job Summary:
The Sign Shop Technician performs a variety of skilled tasks in the production, assembly, and distribution of highway signs. Responsibilities include utilizing metalworking and screen printing equipment, adhering to safety standards, maintaining inventory, and ensuring quality control. This position requires hands-on technical skills and the ability to work with industrial tools and materials in a shop environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Fabricate and assemble highway signs using aluminum or salvaged material
Operate computer systems and machinery involved in the production process
Apply reflective sheeting, perform layout and silk screen activities
Read and interpret blueprints and production drawings
Operate forklift, punch press, shear machines, saws, drills, overhead cranes, and other equipment
Maintain safety practices, use appropriate protective gear (e.g., gloves, respirators, masks)
Pack and distribute completed signs, store inventory
Prioritize sign orders and execute special project requests from agencies (e.g., banners, decals, signage)
Maintain accurate inventory records, clean and organize the shop area
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of industrial safety procedures
Basic math including fractions, decimals, percentages
Skill in sheet metal work and silk screen printing
Ability to operate various production equipment and tools
Ability to read blueprints and follow detailed instructions
Strong attention to quality control and safety compliance
Manual dexterity and physical capability to lift and transport materials
Minimum Qualifications:
Basic education in arithmetic (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, decimals, fractions, percentages)
AND
At least 3 months of training or experience in sheet metal work and related equipment operation
At least 3 months of training or experience in industrial safety practices
At least 3 months of training or experience in sign production
