Job Summary
Performs duties and carries out responsibilities for the delivery of (including but not limited to) his/her duties as a Language Expert and Head Interpreter of the language pair of his/her expertise.
Key Responsibilities & Duties
Language Expert
• Receives translated materials delivered by third-party translation vendors to perform review validation cycle.
• Translates short documents (announcements, blogs, press releases) urgent requests, and confidential/sensitive documents.
• Creates, maintains, and distributes translation memory (TMs) and glossaries in the corresponding language pair to vendors.
• Works with ICANN staff and community members (native speakers of non-English languages) to confirm/validate terminology and include and implement TMs and glossaries.
• Works with the Language Services team to develop and deploy the Quality Assurance process and rating system to ensure work delivered by third-party language service vendors is consistent and of highest quality.
• Supports the Communications Department, working primarily with the Content team.
• Supports the web development team by providing translations, revisions, proofreading.
• Translate reports and reviews report translations.
• Collaborate on video work (voiceover and subtitles).
• Translates infographics, translates/reviews engagement materials, ICANN Learn Courses, surveys, and other content as requested.
• Performs monthly reviews of newsletter translations.
• Collaborates with the Comms Team to improve EN source files.
• Works with ICANN staff on the inclusion and use of terminology.
• Acts as Community/ICANN/regional liaison for language support.
• Keeps up to date with the latest translation technology tools and training.
• Attends Comms/LS Team all-hands meetings.
Head Interpreter
• Monitor performance of interpreters within their language pair team.
• Ensures services provided by language team members during ICANN meetings are efficient and timely.
• Coordinate distribution of TMs and glossaries among language team members.
• Assist in training new contract interpreters.
• Develops onboarding materials for new interpreters.
• Builds technical glossaries for specific sessions together with interpreters.
• Schedules interpreters in rooms where interpretation is needed during ICANN meetings.
• Prepares and distributes materials and glossaries to interpreters in advance of each ICANN Meeting.
• Coordinates and/or provides interpretation support during ad-hoc and regional meetings.
• Discusses latest developments in subject area to ensure interpreters have the necessary background information.
• Provides teleconference interpretation support - coordinates this service in respective language teams.
Other duties as assigned or requested
• Helps develop terminology standards in coordination with the staff and in consultation and coordination with language services provided by vendors.
• Participates in evaluation and new workflow related to new language technologies.
• Works constructively with supervisor to produce periodic reports using Language Services performance metrics.
• Will receive training for project management of Blogs and Announcements (creates, follows up and closes tickets in Samanage and/or SolarWinds, delivers completed translations to WebAdmin or requestor, updates the tracking sheets, sends queries to ICANN content).
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

• Broad knowledge and experience in interpretation and translation
Proficient in:
o RWS (SDL TRADOS Platform)
o Mac desktop environment experience
o Adobe Illustrator and Adobe InDesign
o MS Office (Word, Excel, Power point, Outlook)
• Demonstrated ability to work remotely yet in constant communication with teammates and department management.
Education and Experience Requirements
Education
• Associate or Bachelor’s Degree required in Translation and Interpretation.
Experience
• Minimum 5 years of experience in translation with a bachelor’s degree, or 7-8 years of progressive work experience without bachelor’s degree
• Prior international experience preferred.
• Prior experience working for an international organization strongly preferred.
• Knowledge in RWS (SDL Trados and Multiterm) and Simultaneous interpretation.
• Project management experience preferred.
• Translation and/or Interpreter certification/credential is required
Languages
=> Fluency in English, both written and spoken is required.
=> Fluency in Arabic, both written and spoken is required.
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
• International travel will be required to support ICANN-related meetings as requested for lengths of 7-10 days for each trip, approximately three times per year, likely on different continents.
• Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally as needed.
• Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally 50 % of the time, or as needed
• Ability to travel without restrictions globally, frequently with limited notice is required.
• Comfort level with an international work environment that requires availability at times outside normal business hours, seven days per week.
• Work location is primarily remote from home, with a possible schedule to come to the LA office once a week, or twice per month.
