JMT's Columbus Highways Team is seeking an experienced Project Engineer I to be responsible for engineering design using knowledge of general engineering principles and practices to interpret, organize, execute and coordinate assignments with limited supervision. Acts as a technical advisor to less experienced engineers.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Analyze survey reports, maps, drawings, blueprints, aerial photography and other topographical or geologic data to plan projects
Perform design computations
Design projects in accordance with client specifications and guidelines, using design software and drawing tools, the successful candidate must be proficient in MicroStation and OpenRoads 3D Modeling
Develop or review the construction cost estimate.
Prepare and compile contract plans, specifications and estimates
Attend meetings with clients and assist taking meeting minutes
Coordinate with internal team members to ensure project completion by the defined deadline and established quality
Manage project sub-consultants and in-house support disciplines
Plan, schedule, conduct or coordinate detailed phases of the engineering work in a part of a major project or in a total project of moderate scope
Assist in the preparation of engineering documents for advertisement and construction
Develop extra work order requests and open-end contract task proposals
Prepare proposals as required
Analyze project requirements and information from alternative studies to develop an accurate report for submittal.
Quality review of project design in accordance with the Project Management Plan.

Required Skills
Proficient in discipline specific design software, OpenRoads 3D Modeling and MicroStation
Experience with ODOT design programs as well as other industry leading engineering software
Proficient in Microsoft Office
Strong Written and communication skills
Must successfully complete and pass JMT's Motor Vehicle screening
Required Experience
Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related field from an ABET accredited engineering program
Ohio Professional Engineer License
5 - 10 years’ experience in specialized discipline
Proficient in discipline specific software
Proficient in Microsoft Office
Written and communication skills
Qualifications Preferred
Experience working with local clients at the county and state level
Working Conditions
Work is performed within a general office environment 95% of the time. Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.
Field work is required on occasion where work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Some lifting (up to 25 lbs) may be required as needed.
