The NC Forest Service (NCFS), as a division within the NCDA&CS, manages DuPont State Recreational Forest (DSRF) and Holmes Educational State Forest (HESF) in Transylvania and Henderson Counties.
DSRF is managed for natural resource conservation, scenic enjoyment, and outdoor recreational purposes.
DSRF strives to provide an exemplary model of scientifically sound, ecologically based natural resource management for the social and economic benefit of a diverse community of users.
HESF provides the citizens of North Carolina a living outdoor classroom where visitors of all ages can learn about the local natural forest environment.
The primary purpose of this position is to provide administrative and clerical assistance and office support to the Forest Supervisor, Assistant Forest Supervisor, Office Manager, and DSRF-HESF organizational units in all program areas.
Duties include preparing and reviewing a variety of computer-generated documents with accuracy, composing memos and letters, coding invoices for payment, creating requisitions in E-procurement, reviewing and entering temporary personnel time, reconciling purchasing card transactions, processing invoices, reconciling fuel receipts, making daily deposits, scheduling reservations, and maintaining files and databases.
Other roles include providing computer support and troubleshooting to personnel, overseeing maintenance of local computer/technology systems, order/maintaining inventory of office equipment and supplies.
This position provides information to the visiting public.
Answers telephone calls and responds to voice mail and email inquiries and routine questions about the forest in a courteous manner.
Provides or directs the public as to information regarding numerous programs.
NCFS is an Emergency Response Division: This position will require responding to incidents on DSRF and HESF during and after normal hours of operation, which may require extended hours and/or emergency callback.
This position may require responding to wildland fires and other "all risk" incidents as needed locally and throughout the State.
Majority of day-to-day duties are in an office setting.
Occasional light to moderate lifting required.
Occasional environmental exposures include adverse weather conditions, emergency work after sunset, overhead forest hazards, uneven and/or steep terrain, and large crowds of visitors.
Work hours are typically 8 am to 5 pm, Mon-Fri.
Some work functions require evening, holiday, and/or weekend work.
Wildfire and disaster/emergency response require year-round readiness 24/7.
Some overnight travel may be required.

MANAGEMENT PREFERENCES * Familiarity with the North Carolina Forest Service and the operations that support the goals of DuPont State Recreational Forest.
* Familiarity with the state procurement system and processes * Experience working with QuickBooks software.
* Familiar with SharePoint and HTML, and experience editing website content.
* Knowledgeable about editing images and creating graphics suitable for online content.
* Basic knowledge and skills troubleshooting computers, printers, and other general office equipment.
* Self-motivated with an ability to problem-solve or work independently, as well as capacity to function effectively in a collaborative team setting.
* Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
* Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds or with diverse perspectives.
* Experience interacting with the public.
You may qualify by an equivalent combination of education and experience, either through years of education or years of directly related experience, or a combination of both.
High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and one year of administrative experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
