Join the Texas A&M College of Medicine as a Research Assistant in the area of Cell Biology and Genetics! As a Research Assistant, you will perform stem cell culture, differentiation of stem cells to mature cells, extracellular vesicle isolation, and neurobehavioral studies in animal models of neurodegenerative diseases and stress Additionally, you will conduct brain tissue analysis using immunohistochemistry, light microscopy, and confocal microscopy. Opportunities to Contribute
Research: Cultures human induced pluripotent stem cells, neural stem cells, and mesenchymal stem cells; Isolates extracellular vesicles using anion-exchange and size-exclusion chromatographic methods; conducts Neurobehavioral studies, Immunohistochemical and immunofluorescence studies on brain tissue sections; conducts Light and confocal microscopic studies and Image J analysis.
Research Publications: Uses computers and laboratory or technical equipment to perform data analysis, statistical analysis, and technical evaluation of research experiments and results; assists in preparing research proposals and progress reports.
Mentorship: Assists undergraduate and graduate students for the laboratory work.
Minimum Required Qualifications
B.S. degree, in biomedical sciences, biotechnology, life-science or equivalent combination of education
The well-qualified candidate will also possess
Culturing human cell lines such human induced pluripotent stem cells and human mesenchymal stem cells
Generation of neural stem cells, astrocytes and microglia from human induced pluripotent stem cells
Differentiation cultures of human neural stem cells into neurons, and astrocytes
Isolation of extracellular vesicles from culture media and plasma using anion-exchange and size exclusion chromatographic methods
Processing brain tissue sections for immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence methods
Light and confocal microscopy
Image J analysis of immunostained brain tissues
Experience in laboratory maintenance and ordering supplies
Knowledge of computers and computer software related to the position
Knowledge of laboratory maintenance and equipment
Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others
