Join the Texas A&M College of Medicine as a Research Assistant in the area of Cell Biology and Genetics! As a Research Assistant, you will be required to perform animal breeding, genotyping, and neurobehavioral studies in animal models of neurodegenerative diseases and stress. Additionally, you will conduct brain tissue analysis using immunohistochemistry, light microscopy, and confocal microscopy, as well as perform chromatography. Opportunities to Contribute
Research: Performs animal handling and genotyping, Neurobehavioral studies testing cognitive and mood function, Immunohistochemical and immunofluorescence studies on brain tissue sections, Chromatography methods for the isolation of extracellular vesicles, Light and confocal microscopic studies.
Research Publications: Uses computers and laboratory or technical equipment to perform data analysis, statistical analysis, and technical evaluation of research experiments and results; assists in preparing research proposals and progress reports.
Mentorship: Assists undergraduate and graduate students for the laboratory work.
Minimum Required Qualifications
B.S. degree, in biomedical sciences, veterinary sciences or equivalent combination of education and experience
The well-qualified candidate will also possess
Experience handling rats and mice
Genotyping transgenic mouse colonies
Testing rats and mice for cognitive and mood function using neurobehavioral tests (e.g., novel object recognition test, object location test, pattern separation test and sucrose preference test)
Rat and mouse euthanasia using intracardiac perfusions and fixed brain tissue harvesting
Processing brain tissues for cryostat sectioning, immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence methods
Light and confocal microscopy, Image J analysis of immunostained brain tissues
Chromatography methods for extracellular vesicles isolation
Experience in laboratory maintenance and ordering supplies
Knowledge of computers and computer software related to the position
Knowledge of laboratory maintenance and equipment
Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others
