POSITION SUMMARY:
Hybrid position- The Design Engineer is responsible for the mechanical design structure of new aluminum trailers, improvements to existing designs, as well as customization of existing base model designs. Accomplish correct and exacting functionality along with superior visual aesthetics within the engineering design process to assure that what we make works well and looks good. In addition, accomplishes correct and efficient manufacturability with all designs. Position interacts with sales and the sales quoting process as well as with quality and production management. Engineers’ products to ensure adherence to established product specifications and build standards with the end user’s finished good desires in mind.
FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Creates engineering drawings and designs to ensure adherence to established specifications and standards to meet project requirements. Updates standards as needed.
Generates 3D SolidWorks prints, weldments, bills of material and other design rendition features.
Draws details to include all views and dimensions necessary for manufacturing. Solid understanding of engineering design techniques and familiarity with engineering terminology and mechanical logic.
Use SolidWorks CAD programs to provide support to production by preparing custom and standard layouts, detail drawings, and diagrams.
Familiar with a variety of metal weldments, field concepts, manufacturing practices and procedures. Relies on experience and judgment to plan, solve problems and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of complicated tasks.
Position represents a blend of functional applications to include: Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Design and Design for Manufacturability.
A high degree of design creativity, latitude, and motivation is expected.
Contributes to R&D for new product development, upgrades on functionality and quality improvement.
Heavy interaction with inside sales and the quoting process.
Heavy interaction with manufacturing projection management supporting timely resolution of manufacturing problems.
Performs other engineering duties as assigned.
DESIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s Degree (B.S.) in Mechanical Engineering related studies
0-5 years’ experience in the field of Design Engineering preferred.
Experience with SolidWorks CAD Software, preferably 1-5 years.
Basic understanding of ERP systems and BOM systems.
Experience with using snowmobile, ATV, open and enclosed utility or livestock trailers is desired.
Horse/Livestock trailer experience a plus
