Position Overview
BizFirst is supporting our client in search of a SkillBridge intern to enhance a custom Microsoft PowerApp and associated Power Automate workflows used by their internal team for managing foreign travel reporting. This internship provides an excellent opportunity for a transitioning service member to apply their technology and problem-solving skills in a hands-on project while learning from a supportive, mission-oriented team. The selected intern will work independently with light-touch support and take ownership of improving workflow functionality, data capture, automation, and user notifications within an existing Microsoft SharePoint-integrated solution..
Our client is a specialized management consulting firm that engages experienced professionals and consultants to support the federal government with strategic project execution, financial process optimization, advanced IT solutions, and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system implementation. Through innovative transformations, they develop and implement strategies to optimize operations for military departments and agencies across the U.S. Federal Government.
What You will Do:
As a Power Platform Intern, you will work directly with our client’s HQ team to improve and enhance a key internal application built in PowerApps with Power Automate flows. This application supports pre-travel briefings, in-travel data protection, and post-travel debriefs for employees reporting foreign travel.
Key Responsibilities
Troubleshoot and repair an existing PowerApp used for foreign travel reporting, including correcting notification logic and email routing within Power Automate.
Lock specified date fields within the form to prevent user edits after submission.
Add new fields and data capture requirements based on evolving travel policies.
Enhance pre-travel workflow to automatically:
Send a travel questionnaire to the employee,
Capture their responses, and
Notify the Security Team upon completion.
Modify the form logic to lock data fields progressively based on the travel timeline.
Develop and implement a post-travel workflow that:
Automatically triggers a debrief questionnaire 5 days after return,
Captures employee responses, and
Alerts the Security Team.
Design a parallel process (optional) for users without access to Microsoft 365, using fillable PDFs or other alternate methods, if time permits.
Required Qualifications
Currently enrolled in the DoD SkillBridge program and eligible for internship placement.
Familiarity with Microsoft Power Platform (PowerApps, Power Automate).
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage milestones with minimal supervision.
Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience creating forms and automating workflows using SharePoint and Power Platform.
Knowledge of data security, user roles, and form logic design.
Ability to create user-friendly interfaces and logic-driven workflows.
