Job Title: Systems Administrator
Location: Oakland or San Francisco, CA
Salary Range: $81,121.90 – $85,228.70 annually
Job Type: Full-Time
Overview:
A large union contractor in California is looking for a Systems Administrator to support daily IT operations and infrastructure across multiple locations. This is a hands-on role focused on maintaining hardware, software, phones, and network systems, while supporting end users and participating in both ongoing and short-term technical projects.
You'll work with a variety of tools and technologies in a dynamic environment, helping ensure systems run smoothly and securely for staff and volunteers alike.
What You’ll Be Doing:Systems Administration
Maintain and troubleshoot workstations, VOIP systems, mobile devices, printers, and audiovisual equipment
Provide general IT support to staff and coordinate setup for meetings, events, and training
Track and maintain IT inventory and software licensing
Set up new user accounts, provision hardware, and document system configurations
Support internal helpdesk functions, including training and daily troubleshooting
Recommend updates or upgrades to equipment and practices
Configure and maintain LifeSize video conferencing systems
Keep clear documentation of system standards and proceduresNetwork & Server Support
Create and manage user accounts (Windows domain, Exchange, etc.)
Handle basic server operations, including backup, performance tuning, and monitoring
Troubleshoot network issues involving routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless connectivity
Monitor network security and ensure systems are patched and secure
Assist with installation and configuration of infrastructure tools like SQL, Exchange, and domain controllers
Support disaster recovery proceduresPhone Systems
Set up and support Zoom Cloud VOIP desk phones and mobile devices
Train staff on phone systems and manage user extensions and accounts
Keep records of phone line usage and review billing for accuracy
Troubleshoot mobile and desk phone issues as neededGeneral Support
Collaborate with staff across departments to ensure smooth tech operations
Participate in occasional organizing or campaign activities
Stay up to date on new technology and contribute ideas for improvements
Perform other duties as assignedWhat We’re Looking For:
Degree in IT or related field, or equivalent experience (4+ years hands-on)
Strong working knowledge of Microsoft systems and network environments
Microsoft Certification is a plus
Ability to explain technical processes to non-technical users
Experience handling a wide range of hardware, software, and infrastructure tools
Able to work independently and meet deadlines
Comfortable lifting equipment (up to 50 lbs) and working flexible hours if needed
Experience with VOIP and mobile device management
Familiar with tools like Exchange, SQL Server, Active Directory, etc.
Reporting To: IT Director or designated supervisor
Travel: Occasional, as required
