About the Position:
The Design Engineer at PHIL will be creating the initial designs for the off-highway haul truck accessories that PHIL manufactures. This role requires the individual to have an intuitive listening ear for determining customer needs including discussing their equipment specifications, performance expectations, materials to be hauled, and other specific equipment needs. The Design Engineer collaborates with the engineering and production teams at PHIL to design, create, and modify customized products.
Experience Required:
1+ years' experience in a similar role designing weldments or steel fabrications required.
4-year engineering degree (mechanical, agricultural, mining, or relevant field) required.
Experience with CAD systems, especially Autodesk Inventor or similar programs required.
Experience in Microsoft Suite applications required.
Professional Engineering License preferred; ability to pursue licensing required.
Experience designing electrical and hydraulic circuits preferred.
Ability to meet the mental and physical demands of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.
Responsibilities:
Perform extensive customer consultation to determine customer equipment needs, applications, and performance expectations.
Understanding of PHIL product line offerings for specific customer use and applications.
Examine previous designs and provide recommendations for improvement.
Identify customer challenges and create innovative design solutions.
Create and modify design drawings and related documents including sales proposals, product designs, assembly prints, bill of materials, and shipping drawings.
Collaborate with production associates to design products that are manufacturable and user-friendly.
Utilize technology to perform load profile assessments and capture 3D images.
Collaborate with engineering team to assist with various projects, review others' work, and provide constructive feedback.
Assist with special projects including product research and development, documentation and applications for intellectual property patents, development of department standards, and process documentation.
Occasional travel (5 - 15%) to attend trade shows, training seminars, customer visits, and assist with measuring, installing, diagnosing, and repairing product in the field.
Manage time spent on projects for budgeting and cost accounting data purposes and to assist with customer pricing.
Assist with training and development of other team members and development of training tools.
