Position Overview
The Continuous Improvement & Engineering Support Technician plays a vital role in enhancing shop operations, supporting engineering processes, and driving continuous improvement initiatives. This role is focused on improving procedures, streamlining workflows, supporting the development of technical documentation, and assisting in quality-related activities. The ideal candidate has strong mechanical aptitude, a hands-on mindset, and a passion for process improvement within a service-focused environment specializing in valve and pump repair for the marine industry.
Key Responsibilities
Continuous Improvement
Manage and sustain 5S initiatives, including weekly audits and team coaching.
Lead and track Lean projects focused on reducing waste, improving flow, and optimizing repair/service processes.
Create and maintain Value Stream Maps and identify opportunities to reduce cycle times.
Conduct ROI analysis for improvement efforts and support implementation planning.
Facilitate Gemba walks with production supervisors and contribute to regular steering committee meetings.
Ensure that visual management tools (MDI/BCC boards) are updated and used effectively.
Support the creation and execution of 180-day improvement plans aligned with plant objectives.Engineering & Process Support
Assist the Engineering team in developing and updating process documents, including EPIs (Engineering Process Instructions) and inspection sheets.
Support R&D efforts by helping implement and document new repair and testing processes.
Work with Engineering and Production to troubleshoot process-related issues and support procedural updates.
Document and help standardize test stand procedures, equipment usage, and setup guidelines.
Assist with technical documentation control, ensuring procedures and forms are current, accessible, and properly used in the shop.Quality Assistance
Support inspections and random sample checks in collaboration with the quality team.
Assist in CMM inspections for new and critical parts, providing data for analysis.
Participate in failure/root cause investigations and help document findings in support of Engineering and Customer Service.
Job Requirements
A track record of ethical behavior and team collaboration.
Hands-on experience with 5S, Lean Manufacturing, and process development.
Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and process documentation.
Familiarity with inspection tools (calipers, micrometers, gauges, CMM).
Proficient in technical writing and comfortable working in a document-driven environment.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills to support cross-functional collaboration.
Experience in a manufacturing or industrial service environment (valves, pumps, marine industry preferred).
