Job Summary
The Driver / Shipping Clerk is primarily responsible for the safe and timely transport of precision sheet metal components and finished products to customer locations and other destinations. When not performing driving duties, this position supports shipping operations, including preparing, packaging, and documenting outgoing shipments. This dual-role position is vital in ensuring on-time delivery, shipping accuracy, and compliance with AS9100 standards. The Driver / Shipping Clerk works closely with production, inventory, and customer service teams to support overall logistics efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
**Driving & Delivery **
o Transport finished goods and materials to customers, suppliers, and between facilities as needed.
o Ensure safe loading and unloading of cargo, securing materials to prevent damage during transit.
o Verify delivery instructions, obtain required signatures, and complete delivery documentation.
o Maintain clean driving records and adhere to all traffic and safety regulations.
o Perform routine inspections of the company vehicle and report maintenance needs.
Shipping
Shipping Preparation
o Review work orders, packing slips, and shipping instructions for accuracy.
o Pull, inspect, and verify parts for shipment based on customer orders and internal requests.
o Ensure correct part numbers, quantities, and labeling prior to packaging.
**Packaging **
o Package products securely using appropriate materials (boxes, crates, pallets) to prevent damage during transit.
o Prepare proper packaging for sensitive or high-precision components in compliance with customer specifications.
o Label packages clearly and accurately with shipping details, part numbers, and customer information.
**Documentation & ERP **
o Generate shipping documentation such as packing slips, bills of lading, and shipping labels.
o Input shipment details and tracking information into the ERP system.
o Maintain shipping records and logs for traceability and AS9100 compliance.
Carrier Coordination
o Schedule pickups and coordinate with carriers (UPS, FedEx, freight, etc.).
o Ensure shipping deadlines are met and communicate any delays to internal teams.
Inventory Support
o Report material movements and update inventory quantities during shipment preparation.
o Assist with cycle counts or physical inventories as needed.
**Safety & Housekeeping **
o Follow all safety policies and wear appropriate PPE.
o Maintain a clean and organized shipping area.
o Report any unsafe conditions or damaged materials immediately.
Qualifications
Education and Experience- High school diploma or GED required.
1+ year of professional driving experience with a clean driving record
1+ year of experience in shipping or warehouse operations
Experience in a manufacturing or aerospace environment preferred
Licenses- Valid state drivers license required
Ability to meet company driver eligibility requirements.
Skills & Competencies
o Familiarity with FedEx, UPS, or freight shipping software.
o Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy.
o Ability to work independently and prioritize workload.
o Basic computer and ERP system knowledge.
**Physical Requirements & Work Environment **
- Requires driving, standing, walking, lifting, pushing, and pulling materials up to 50lbs.
Manufacturing floor environment with exposure to noise, machinery, and metal components.
Safety protocols, including the use of PPT, must be always followed.
Schedule- Hours: 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM, Monday – Friday (Overtime or schedule adjustments as needed to meet demand)
Compensation- Hourly Range: $18-22 per hour
