The Hartford’s Employee Benefits IT Team is seeking a highly motivated, experienced IT professional who will be responsible for leading engineering teams to drive the Cloud transformation.

This technical role will lead the transformation of our data exchange systems, ensuring they are scalable, efficient, and aligned with modern technologies and best practices. This role requires a deep understanding of data exchange protocols, modernization strategies, and leadership capabilities.

The ideal candidate will be expected to demonstrate leadership skills, excellent partnership, solid technical acumen, experience in delivering quality technical solutions as well as setting and executing on a strategic technical vision to ensure the systems are stable, performant, and secure.

Key Responsibilities:

Modernization Strategy: Develop and implement a comprehensive strategy for modernizing data exchange systems.

Architecture Design: Design and architect scalable and robust data exchange solution

Cloud-Native Solutions: Architect and implement highly available, scalable, and secure solutions using AWS services like Lambda, ECS, S3, RDS, Glue, Step Functions, SNS, SQS, Event Bridge and Service Catalog.

Development: Oversee the development, testing, and deployment of data exchange workflows and systems.

DevOps & Automation: Advocate for CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code (IaC) with AWS CloudFormation and/or terraform, and automated testing to ensure software quality and deployment efficiency.

Performance Optimization: Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks in applications, databases, and cloud infrastructure.

Security & Compliance: Build secure solutions and use shift left approach to include security testing considerations within development cycle.

Integration: Ensure seamless integration of modernized systems with existing infrastructure and tech partner platforms.

Data Management: Ensure data integrity, quality, and security across all exchange systems.

Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams including data architecture and business stakeholders to understand data requirements and deliver solutions.

Compliance: Ensure compliance with data governance and regulatory requirements.

Monitoring and Logging: Set up and manage monitoring and logging solutions using AWS CloudWatch and Splunk to ensure system health and performance.

Technical Leadership: Guide and mentor software engineers, conduct design reviews, and drive best practices in cloud development.

Innovation: Stay up to date with emerging technologies and help drive innovative and AI-based solutions to improve system performance and maintainability.

Minimum Qualifications:

Advanced degree in Computer Science or related discipline

5+ years of experience with ETL processes and data pipeline development.

3+ years of experience working with AWS and cloud-native application development.

Proficiency in data exchange protocols (e.g., EDI, API, XML, JSON).

Experience of data integration tools (e.g., Informatica Intelligent Data Management Cloud and Informatica cloud integration hub).

Expertise in microservices architecture, RESTful APIs, and event-driven systems.

Strong understanding of security best practices, authentication and IAM policies.

Hands-on experience with IaC tools like AWS CloudFormation, Terraform or CDK.

Strong background in relational (PostgreSQL, Oracle) databases.

Experience implementing scalable, high-availability solutions with distributed systems.

Experience with continuous integration and DevOps methodologies, preferred tools such as GitHub, Jenkins, AWS Code Pipeline, SonarQube, Copilot (GEN AI tools) etc.,

Experience implementing proactive monitoring and observability tools such as AWS CloudWatch, Splunk, to predict and detect abnormal system behaviors, with timely alerts avoiding system impacts.

Preferred Skills:

Proficiency in containerization (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes, ECS, or EKS).

Experience in Programming languages such as Python, Java, SQL.

Knowledge of AI services on AWS.

This role will have a Hybrid work schedule, with the expectation of working in an office (Columbus, OH, Chicago, IL, Hartford, CT or Charlotte, NC) 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday).

Candidates must be authorized to work in the US without company sponsorship. The company will not support the STEM OPT I-983 Training Plan endorsement for this position.

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$126,160 - $189,240
