Nature of Work

Parks-Pipestem Resort State Park Under general supervision of the Lodge District Parks Manager, this employee will act as the General Manager who is responsible for the management, operation, maintenance, and protection of Pipestem Resort State Park. This individual will be responsible for the daily operations of a four seasons resort park that includes two lodges; a conference center; four self-operated food service operations; year-round cabins; an eighteen-hole championship golf course; a campground; a recreation center that includes, miniature golf, disc golf, foot-golf, and fling-golf, a remote control racetrack, outdoor amphitheater; a lake with fishing, pedal boating, paddle boarding, kayaking and canoeing; an aerial tramway operation; bicycle rentals; four retail outlets; a nature center; a horseback riding concession; game courts; scenic overlooks; picnic sites; picnic shelters and a wedding gazebo. Additionally, this employee will oversee the operations of the WV State Parks Call Center and oversee the operations of an adventure concession that includes a zip line, splash park, lake inflatables, as well as other adventure activities. This individual will actively seek opportunities and solutions in increasing occupancy in the various lodging facilities through the active management of rates and packaging, and work with staff to increase group occupancy and rentals of conference center facilities; will assist in producing creative and enticing overnight lodging packages, promotions and events in order to increase visitation and interest in the park’s amenities and overnight accommodations; work to increase revenue and golf rounds at the championship course; work to increase retail revenue and provide quality retail merchandise that is attractive to park visitors; work to increase revenue at the park’s revenue centers; create a culture of providing superior hospitality to park visitors and ensure continued superior hospitality through the training, coaching and motivating of park staff; control expenses, hire, train, motivate, and discipline staff; prepare and approve purchases; handle and resolve customer complaints; respond to emergencies; perform law enforcement duties; and perform related work as required. Minimum Qualifications

Training: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.

OR

Substitution: Additional experience as described below may be substituted for the required training at a rate of one (1) year of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience per thirty (30) semester hours of coursework.

AND

Experience: Five (5) years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience working at a state park, in a natural resources related field, in the tourism or travel industry, or in the environmental industry four (4) years of which must have been in responsible administrative or supervisory capacity.

Special Requirement: Must have a valid driver’s license. May need to successfully complete required Special Natural Resources Police Officer training and pistol requirements as established by the Division of Natural Resources, Law Enforcement Section. May need to pass periodic firearms qualification. May need to pass an initial physical examination, psychological evaluation and a polygraph examination designed to determine applicant’s fitness for Special Natural Resources Police Officer enforcement duties.
