Essential Functions:

Interviews and evaluates inmates to determine their proper living quarters within the correctional facility; and monitors inmate disciplinary actions and program violations

Explains policies, procedures, and daily schedule; assists inmates in obtaining employment, training, services and programs provided within the facility while incarcerated

UNDER GENERAL SUPERVISION

Interviews inmates, and assesses their behavioral, medical, sociological, psychological and economic backgrounds to determine their proper living quarters within the correctional facility

Explains correctional facility rules, procedures and services; pre-trail and court operations; and inmate rights and privileges

Assesses inmate housing assignments following disturbances and significant occurrences, confers with staff to resolve inmate problems, and coordinates inmate movement to and from disciplinary segregation

Reviews inmate disciplinary action notices for validity, appropriate charges, and conformity to policy and procedures

Processes program violation documents to notify sentencing judges of inmates on court ordered releases

Communicates and answers questions from inmates, listens to their complaints and problems, provides direction and advice, or refers their concerns to proper authorities

Assists inmates in adjusting to circumstances and environment of incarceration; and assists in arranging for or obtaining employment, training, medical, sociological, psychological or legal services while incarcerated

Contacts employers to verify inmate work schedules; and solicits volunteers, services and donations for special programs

Records observations; prepares and submits reports; completes and processes housing, classification and disciplinary forms and records; and testifies in court

Minimum Requirements

Physical Requirement & Working Conditions:

Meets regular and punctual attendance standards and any special needs of the position as determined by management, including mandatory overtime and performing related work

Minimum Requirements:

High school diploma or the equivalent

One year of counseling, social or community service, or criminal justice experience

Other Minimums:

Must be a minimum of 18 years of age

Must not have been convicted of a felony

Misdemeanor convictions will be considered on an individual basis

Must submit to a pre-employment polygraph test

Must wear personal protective equipment as mandated by OSHA

Must be vaccinated for hepatitis B, have provided evidence of immunity, or have signed a declination form within ten days of initial assignment

Must pass an annual tuberculin test

Special Requirements:

Applicants and employees in positions which perform job duties that may require contact with offenders in the custody or supervision of the Department of Juvenile Justice or with youth in the care, custody or supervision of Youth Development

must meet qualifications pursuant to the federal Prison Rape Elimination Act, 28 CFR 115.17 and 115.317, to include periodic post-employment criminal background checks

Equivalency:

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted
