Definition

Under general direction, is responsible for assisting in the planning, organizing, and coordinating of the work projects in the Power Distribution Section within the Division of Power; performs related duties as required.

Examples of Work

(Any one position may not include all of the duties listed, nor do the examples cover all of the duties that may be performed.)

Assigns work to crews to ensure established priorities; approves work schedules; reassigns work crews as needed to meet work objectives;

Monitors the work of staff in power distribution which may include substation, underground, overhead, and street lighting sections to ensure smooth operations;

Monitors the load on the power distribution and transmission system;

Oversees the construction and maintenance program to line crew supervisors;

Orders equipment, tools, and supplies required by field crews;

Inspects work in progress for conformance to engineering plans, specifications, and oral instructions;

Works closely with engineering personnel in planning construction projects;

Assists in forecasting equipment and budgetary requirements; recommends equipment updates;

Approves the vacation schedules; completes performance reviews; approves overtime for subordinates;

Supervises the maintenance of work records;

Assists in the education of staff on safety procedures and regulations;

Investigates complaints received from the public relative to actions of workers in the field

Prepares reports as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Completion of the twelfth school grade and two (2) years of experience as a Power Line Worker Supervisor II, or Cable Worker Supervisor II, or comparable experience. Substitution(s): A certificate of high school equivalence (GED) will be accepted in lieu of the twelfth school grade requirement.

Possession of a valid State of Ohio motor vehicle operator’s license.

The examination process will consist of a multiple-choice / forced-choice Experience Evaluation exam weighted 100%.

Approved applicants will be notified by mail/email of their scheduled test date and time.

All applicants must complete all phases of the testing process in order to receive a final score. The names of all candidates who pass this examination will remain on the eligible list for two years, unless the eligible list is replaced prior to or extended beyond the two years. If a candidate's name is certified and the candidate is to be considered for employment, the hiring process will include one or more interviews, a criminal background check, and a pre-employment drug test.
