Job Description
Are you a mechanical engineer who thrives in the heart of the action — on the plant floor, solving problems, and keeping heavy industrial systems running at full steam?
Client is seeking a hands-on Mechanical Engineer with deep maintenance and reliability experience to join our operations team. You'll work directly with high-horsepower motors, steam systems, rotating equipment, hydraulics, and conveyors in a demanding paper manufacturing environment. This is a maintenance-first role, not a desk job or design position. If you're passionate about keeping machines running, leading improvement projects, and working shoulder-to-shoulder with skilled maintenance crews, let’s talk.
What You’ll Do:
· Lead mechanical maintenance and equipment reliability efforts across the mill
· Oversee and troubleshoot pumps, fans, gearboxes, refiners, presses, and dryers
· Manage preventive and predictive maintenance programs (vibration analysis, thermography, lubrication)
· Coordinate shutdowns, turnarounds, and capital repairs
· Partner with production, safety, and procurement to optimize uptime and reduce costs
· Ensure all projects meet safety and regulatory compliance (OSHA, EPA, local codes)
· Supervise contractors and in-house teams on repair and installation work
· Be available for emergency support as needed (on-call, 24/7 rotation)
What You Bring:
· BS in Mechanical Engineering (or closely related field)
· 10+ years in mechanical maintenance within a heavy manufacturing setting (paper/pulp preferred)
· Expertise in rotating equipment, steam systems, hydraulics, and material handling
· Skilled in equipment troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and process optimization
· Familiar with Lean, TPM, or RCM practices
· Strong leadership and communication skills
· A “boots on the ground” mindset — ready to get your hands dirty and lead from the floor
Bonus Points For:
· CMMS experience
· Experience managing capital projects
· Knowledge of paper chemistry and fiber processing
· Prior success with team development and technical training
Why Join?
Competitive salary & benefits
Legacy brand with strong local roots
Work that truly impacts production and reliability
Strong leadership, collaborative culture
Opportunity to drive process improvements and modernize systems
Schedule: Full-time, with extended hours and 24/7 on-call support as needed
