Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Fusion Welder to join our manufacturing and assembly team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for performing precision fitting and fusion welding using GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding) and FCAW (Flux-Cored Arc Welding) processes. This role requires the ability to interpret complex 2D and 3D engineering drawings, conduct quality inspections, and meet stringent welding standards, including AWS D17.1 qualifications.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform fitting and fusion welding using GMAW and FCAW processes on carbon steel components and structures.
Interpret and work from 2D and 3D engineering drawings, blueprints, and welding symbols.
Use a variety of inspection tools including feeler gauges, dial calipers, weld profile gauges, and tape measures to verify accuracy and conformance to specifications.
Load fixtures and components using overhead cranes and rigging equipment in accordance with safety guidelines.
Carry out grinding, fitting, arc gouging, preheating, welding, and mechanical assembly tasks as part of the manufacturing process.
Monitor and verify part quality using statistical process control (SPC) or other established procedures.
Prepare materials and ensure proper alignment prior to welding operations.
Maintain welding machines and hand tools; report issues requiring maintenance or repair.
Ensure compliance with all safety procedures and maintain a clean and organized work area.
Accurately complete all required documentation, including weld logs, inspection reports, and production records.
Must be able to demonstrate and pass welder qualification tests in accordance with AWS D17.1 for all positions on steel materials ranging from 0.250" to 1" plate thickness.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED required; technical training or welding certification preferred.
Minimum 2 years of experience in welding processes.
Proficient in reading and understanding technical and mechanical drawings.
Familiarity with inspection and measurement tools for weld and part verification.
Certified or capable of qualifying to AWS D17.1 requirements.
Experience with overhead crane operation, mechanical assembly, and basic fabrication processes.
Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physically demanding tasks.
Knowledge of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement practices is a plus.
Must be able to work any shift, overtime, weekends and flexible hours as required.
Must adhere to Company policies/procedures and management instruction.
Must be computer literate and proficient in word, excel, and basic data entry.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information and Company Proprietary data.
Working Conditions:
Fast-paced manufacturing environment with exposure to welding fumes, heat, grinding, and noise.
PPE required at all times.
May require extended hours or weekend work to meet production schedules.
Physical Requirements: Primarily manufacturing/assembly environment. Must be able to work in the following environmental conditions: noise, vibration, proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current. Must be able to bend and reach. Must have close visual acuity such as viewing a computer terminal, extensive reading, visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines, and/or assembly or fabrication parts at close distance to the eyes. Must be able to communicate effectively. Must be able to maneuver up to 50 pounds. Will be performing substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
