The City of Pearland, TX is seeking to hire a full-time Traffic Signal Technician to lead and improve aspects of the day-to-day operations of our Engineering and Public Works- Traffic division. The Traffic Signal Technician earns a competitive wage of $22.25-$24.09/per hour based on qualifications and experience. A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A TRAFFIC SIGNAL TECHNICIAN

General Description

The purpose of this class within the organization is to perform installation, maintenance, inventory tracking, troubleshooting, and repairs of the City's traffic control devices.

This class works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.

Essential Functions:

Performs installation, maintenance, inventory tracking, troubleshooting, and repairs of the City's traffic control devices.

Coordinates, analyzes, and updates traffic signals in the City.

Collects traffic volume data, sets traffic counters, and performs related work as required.

Maintains, troubleshoots, and programs signal controllers; inspects, repairs, and fabricates traffic control devises.

Assists in inspection of traffic signal construction projects; performs preventive maintenance on traffic control devices.

Assembles and disassembles equipment.

Maintains system communication cables and equipment.

Trains Traffic Signal Technician trainees by appraising work, giving discipline recommendations, addressing complaints and resolving issues.

Responds to emergency and trouble calls for related work.

Additional Duties:

Organizes data; develops filing and record keeping systems.

Participates in monthly on-call rotation for all traffic control devices.

Assists the Sign Crew installing signs, as needed.

Performs related work as assigned.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent.

Requires two years traffic, electrical, maintenance or closely related experience.

Municipal experience, preferred, not required

Experience with traffic signal software required

Special Certifications and Licenses:

Valid Texas Driver's License

International Municipal Signals Association (IMSA) Level 1 Certification

Traffic Safety Work Zone
