The Ohio State University, College of Engineering, Department of Materials Science and Engineering is seeking a Research Aide and Interviewer (Research Technician 1). This will be an entry level Research Technician role within the College. This is a Technical Track role where the work will be achieved through individual efforts as well as participation through project teams. The work will be technical and operational in nature. The Manager will provide the Research Technician with clearly established guidelines and procedures.

Required Education: High School Graduate or Associate degree in an Engineering Field

Desired Education is a Bachelor's Degree in Biomedical Engineering

Desired Experience: Cell culture, biofabrication, tissue engineering, and regenerative medicine research.

Individual will continue to develop their confidence and knowledge in more advanced technical and operational areas through on the job training and tenure within the role. Individual may serve as an informal resource for Undergraduate Students and Undergraduate Student Employees. Individual will rely upon their Manager and more experienced Researchers (Research Associates) for guidance and training when needed. General support and instruction will be provided to the Research Technician for routine work within the Department and more detailed instruction and guidance will be provided when appropriate. Will log data results for further analysis and communication.

Specific Research Areas that the Research Technician will be involved in will include: Cell Culture and Surgery. Individual will be working on: (1) Poly(propylene fumarate) PPF and Hydrogel and polycaprolactone (PCL) textile scaffold cell seeding, cell culture. (2) Cell and tissue imaging, such as: confocal imaging, SEM (Scanning Electron Microscopy), Fluorescence and Bright Field microscopy, PrestoBlue cell proliferation monitory, Live/Dead TUNEL Assay for cytotoxicity, immunohistochemistry. (3) Cell culture protocol testing, optimization, and write-up. Lab maintenance. Melt Electrowriting (MEW) and Chaotic Printing scaffold fabrication. Photocrosslink-based 3D printing of solid cured PPF scaffolds. (4) Scaffold and regenerative tissue performance modeling Biomechanics (e.g., Finite Element Analysis, Computational Fluid Dynamics). (5) Biofabrication of hydrogel-based scaffolds. Cell-seeding of porous polymer (3D printed) scaffolds. (6) Support of animal model studies.
