Primary Purpose of the Organization: Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit: The Division of External Affairs and Military Relations serves to promote and manage key relationships on behalf of Fayetteville State University the North Carolina General Assembly, governmental agencies, the United States Congress, as well as a variety of quasi-governmental entities whose missions may support the interests of Fayetteville State University.

Primary Purpose of the Position: Primary Purpose of the Position: The Director of Government Relations at Fayetteville State University acts as the primary liaison, building strong relationships with local government entities and community leaders.

This role is crucial in advocating for the university's interests and directly addressing concerns with the City Council and other local government offices.

Guided by the Vice Chancellor of External Affairs and Military Relations, the Director formulates legislative strategies that are in line with the university's strategic goals and legislative priorities.

Additionally, the Director maintains an active presence at local government meetings, including those of the Fayetteville City Council and the Cumberland County Board of Commissioners, ensuring that the university's voice is heard and its interests are upheld.

This role includes coordinating all governmental relations initiatives and actively engaging with local community leaders and officials to advance Fayetteville State University's objectives and enhance community relations.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements: * Master's degree in business, public administration, management, communications, or a related field; or a bachelor's degree along with an additional 2-4 years' experience * 10 years or greater of public sector, corporate, and/or higher education leadership experience that would equip the incumbent with substantial subject matter expertise regarding State and/or Federal affairs and public policy.

* Demonstrated experience and subject matter expertise in legislative affairs, public law, and advocacy relating to State and/or Federal governments.

* Advanced knowledge of and/or experience with higher education issues and priorities is preferred.
