POSITION SUMMARY:
The Linux System Administrator is responsible for the daily administration, support, and continuous improvement of Menard, Inc.’s Linux-based infrastructure. This includes a diverse range of systems supporting core business functions, such as servers, storage, virtualization platforms, automation frameworks, and other critical services. The ideal candidate will have experience operating in mission-critical environments, with a strong focus on availability, performance, and security. This role requires the ability to work effectively in a secure, high-uptime production environment.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
+ Administer and maintain Linux systems across enterprise data centers and remote manufacturing, distribution, and retail environments, ensuring performance, reliability, and availability.
+ Monitor system health and respond to alerts, incidents, and performance issues in a timely and effective manner.
+ Leverage automation and configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible, Salt) to streamline provisioning, patching, and configuration processes.
+ Perform regular system maintenance including kernel and package updates, vulnerability remediation, and backup validation.
+ Collaborate with other infrastructure and application teams to support deployment, scaling, and troubleshooting of business-critical services.
+ Participate in an on-call rotation and respond to after-hours incidents when necessary.
+ Contribute to the design, documentation, and continuous improvement of operational processes and standards.
+ Ensure compliance with corporate security policies and industry best practices through proactive system hardening, auditing, and access management.
Skills/Requirements
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
+ Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field; equivalent professional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
+ Hands-on experience administering Linux systems in a production environment, preferably in a large enterprise or multi-site setting.
+ Proficiency with Red Hat and/or SUSE Linux operating systems, including system installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
+ Experience with automation and configuration management tools such as Ansible, Salt, or similar.
+ Strong scripting skills in Bash; familiarity with Python or other languages is a plus.
+ Working knowledge of system monitoring, log analysis, and performance tuning.
+ Understanding of networking concepts, storage technologies, and virtualization platforms.
+ Familiarity with enterprise backup solutions and disaster recovery practices.
+ Ability to work in a secure, compliance-driven environment and follow change control processes.
+ Strong documentation, communication, and collaboration skills.
