Here, your work will contribute to a smarter, greener future where automation enhances everyday life and paves the way for sustainable growth.
We are seeking a highly qualified Principal Embedded Systems Engineer with deep expertise in Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) design and testing. In this role, you will architect, design, validate, and ensure the compliance of electronic hardware to meet stringent performance, reliability, and EMC regulatory requirements. You will be a key technical leader, working closely with multi-functional teams, including system architects, circuit designers, PCB layout engineers, software developers, and compliance engineers, to ensure our products achieve optimal electromagnetic performance through proactive design methodologies.
IN THIS ROLE, YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES WILL:
Lead the architectural definition and design of complex electronic hardware systems, ensuring high performance, reliability, and manufacturability.
Collaborate with multi-functional teams, including hardware, mechanical, systems, and software engineers, to define product requirements and specifications.
Develop and implement EMC design strategies, ensuring compliance with global regulatory standards (CISPR, IEC, FCC, ISO, CE).
Champion EMC design standard methodologies, including proper grounding, shielding, filtering, and PCB layout techniques.
Define comprehensive validation strategies, supervise compliance testing, and drive design improvements based on results.
Perform root cause analysis and solving of design related issues in both development and production phases.
Collaborate closely with PCB designers and system architects to optimize layouts and system partitioning to minimize EMI emissions and susceptibility.
Guide component and material selection to achieve required performance within system constraints (cost, performance, availability).
Use signal and power integrity simulation tools (e.g., HyperLynx) to predict system performance.
Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers on EMC principles and standard methodologies.
Keep up to date with the latest industry trends, regulations, and emerging technologies, and integrate relevant advancements into Emerson practices.
WHO YOU ARE: You readily learn and adopt new technologies. You step up to handle tough issues. You effectively handle risk. You partner with others to get work done. You provide timely and useful information to individuals across the organization.
FOR THIS ROLE, YOU WILL NEED:
Bachelor’s degree in computer/electrical engineering or a related STEM degree and 6 years of relevant experience OR
Master’s degree in computer/electrical engineering or a related STEM degree and 5 years of relevant experience
Expert knowledge of embedded systems, microcontrollers, microprocessors, FPGAs, and high-speed digital electronics.
Hands-on experience with EMC testing methodologies, test equipment (spectrum analyzers, EMI receivers, RF chambers), and mitigation techniques.
Expertise in PCB layout design for EMC compliance, including high-speed signal routing and layer stack-up optimization.
Proficiency with simulation tools for signal and power integrity
Proven ability to tackle and resolve EMC-related design failures.
Legal authorization to work in the United States without need for sponsorship NOW or in the FUTURE
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS THAT SET YOU APART:
In-depth knowledge of EMI/EMC design principles, including signal integrity (SI) and power integrity (PI).
Proven ability to influence multi-functional teams and drive standard methodologies.
Understanding of Distributed Control Systems and Safety Instrumented Systems
Strong understanding of international regulatory requirements
Experience working with certification bodies and test labs.
