Your Role at KIK
The Sr. Engineering Manager - Capital Projects plays a key leadership role within the Engineering team, overseeing and directly managing capital project planning and execution across multiple manufacturing sites. This role requires a strategic thinker with strong project management skills, technical expertise, and the ability to lead and mentor teams effectively. The position is responsible for leading and supporting the successful delivery of projects from concept through start-up, ensuring they are completed safely, on time, within budget, and to the defined scope and quality.
This role manages a small team of project professionals and requires a hands-on leader who can both guide and coach the team and personally manage and execute high-impact capital projects.
What You’ll Be Doing
Lead the successful execution of capital projects by developing and implementing strategies aligned with organizational goals and priorities.
Drive enterprise-wide strategic capital planning in partnership with Finance, applying a disciplined, value-based approach to prioritize initiatives that enhance safety, protect business continuity, and deliver strong ROI. Ensure the capital investment strategy supports both short- and long-term operational success.
Build and lead cross-functional project teams, including engineers, equipment suppliers, contractors, and other stakeholders. Provide hands-on leadership, guidance, and mentorship to ensure on-time, on-budget delivery.
Develop effective technical solutions that meet business objectives and prepare full-scope project plans including cost estimates, schedules, and risk management strategies.
Allocate and manage resources —personnel, equipment, and materials—to optimize outcomes and minimize risk across all phases of project execution.
Develop and manage project budgets, monitor expenditures, and track performance against financial targets. Integrate value engineering into the project development process, identifying opportunities for cost savings and efficiency improvement.
Develop, maintain, and actively manage detailed project schedules to ensure timely execution of all phases—from design and procurement through installation and startup—while proactively identifying and resolving schedule risks to keep projects on track.
Ensure that all projects achieve intended operational performance, including target production rates, quality standards, and equipment reliability. Validate that new systems and equipment meet performance expectations through commissioning, startup, and post-implementation review.
Serve as the primary liaison for internal and external stakeholders, including senior leadership, regulatory agencies, and vendors. Provide clear, timely updates on project status, risks, and decisions and ensure alignment with stakeholder expectations.
Coordinate bid package development for new equipment and external professional and construction services, ensuring alignment with critical project deliverables and objectives. Review competitive bids and select contractors and contracting strategies in accordance with engineering ways-of-working methodology.
Identify and mitigate project risks proactively to prevent delays, cost overruns, or scope creep. Address issues decisively to keep projects on track.
Ensure compliance with applicable industry standards, building codes, safety regulations, and environmental requirements throughout the project lifecycle
Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance project delivery processes, methodologies, and tools. Implement best practices and lessons learned to optimize future projects.
Establish and enforce quality assurance processes to ensure that deliverables meet or exceed quality standards and specifications.
Champion a culture of safety, discipline, and accountability throughout all phases of project delivery.
What You’ll Bring
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required; Mechanical, Manufacturing, Electrical, Chemical, or Industrial Engineering degree preferred.
10+ years of relevant experience managing capital projects in a manufacturing, industrial, or similar environment, with demonstrated leadership of teams and external partners.
Proven ability to manage multiple capital projects hands-on, with strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Experience leading and mentoring engineers and/or project managers.
Strong command of project management principles, scheduling tools, and financial tracking.
Demonstrated ability to manage budgets, allocate resources, and drive results
PMP certification or equivalent is a plus.
Familiarity with applicable codes, construction practices, and engineering standards.
Proficiency in project management and productivity tools (e.g., MS Project, Excel, Smartsheet).
Willingness to travel up to 40% to support project needs across multiple facilities.
