This in an onsite position.
The Medical Coder will work closely with Providers on conducting documentation and coding chart reviews, medical records audits, and provider education. The medical coder will identify and extract Current Procedural Terminology (CPT), Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS), International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision, Clinical Modification (ICD-10-CM),
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform medical record chart review/audits to validate the accuracy of documentation and coding assignment
Assess EMR workflow and documentation, coding, and data submission processes to identify trends and opportunities to improve quality, efficiency, and productivity
Educate providers and office staff on documentation and coding guidelines as well as on revenue cycle
Educate providers and office staff on Recapture and Suspect diagnosis and analysis of data available to Providers to identify these conditions
Identify and extract CPT, ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS
Ensure compliance with medical record coding guidelines
Liaising with Providers and other parties to clarify information and facilitate communication
Participate in meetings with Providers to answer questions related to documentation and coding
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or GED equivalent
Minimum of 1 year of experience as a medical coder.
Minimum of 1 year of experience with ICD-10.
Proficient computer skills using Microsoft Office and EMR systems.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
Strong people skills.
Outstanding organizational skills.
Ability to maintain the confidentiality of information.
LICENSURES AND CERTIFICATIONS
One or more of the following accreditations: CPC, CCS, RHIA
Risk adjustment and auditing credentials desired: CRC, CPC, CDEO
