Position Overview: The registered nurse (RN) is accountable for the coordination of nursing care, including direct patient care, patient/family education and transitions of care. The RN supports professional nursing practice across practice settings and across the continuum of care to meet the needs of the patient and family. The RN will function within the Mayo Clinic Nursing Professional Practice Model, which includes accountability for planning, implementing, evaluating and communicating all phases of nursing care for assigned patients. The ANA Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice provide a basis for the practice of the RN. The RN provides leadership through activities such as preceptor role, informal leadership roles, and quality improvement efforts. The RN delegates patient care according to skill level, experience, patient acuity, fiscal accountability, and adequacy of resources. The RN possesses excellent communication skills; is skillful in mentoring and teaching; and may participate on committees or projects.
Minimum Education: Student or Graduate of an accredited baccalaureate, associate, or diploma nursing program, as recognized by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN- formerly NLN) or Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). Current RN license by applicable state requirements. Midwest: Basic Cardiac Life Support for healthcare providers- BCLS - certificate of course completion required and must not expire within 3 months after start date.
The RN in the Pacemaker Device Clinic supports care for those with pacemakers, bi-ventricular devices, implantable cardiac defibrillators, and implantable loop recorders. The nurse has knowledge and understanding of cardiac electrophysiology (EP) and rhythm interpretation.
The nurse will:
Exhibit strong critical thinking skills and leverage use of guidelines for patient care within scope of practice
Able to interrogate and program CIED (cardiac devices) independently.
Engage in ongoing learning of device platforms, equipment and technology, testing, and programming
Perform patient education, assessment, and device related programming, testing, and troubleshooting
Complete in-person device checks, remote device transmissions
Review and interpret data, including identification of abnormal device function and provide timely communication with clinicians
Provide post-implant patient education, site assessment, and device assessment
Perform telephone triage, assessment, education, care coordination
Respond to phone calls, pages, and EHR messages for urgent/emergent device-related needs
Timely review and assessment of remote alert notifications, coordinate plan of care (communication w/ clinician, office visit, EUCC visit)
Partner collaboratively with Mayo Clinic Heart Rhythm Services and multidiciplinary care team, including Electrophysiology team, EP Lab Cardiology Clinic, CV Scheduling, Hospital, Emergency Urgent Care Center (EUCC), Operating Room, Radiology (i.e. MRI), Dermatology, and others throughout the region
Required - RN License and BLS
