The Engineer III position is the advanced level of the Engineering classification hierarchy. Employees in the Engineer III position solve complex problems in engineering areas of specialization with limited supervision. An Engineer III is expected to develop advanced skills, and the ability to work with greater independence. An Engineer III effectively applies fundamental concepts and procedures to work that is progressively complex and varied.
The Senior Engineer manages work in engineering areas of specialization, with minimal supervision. The Senior Engineer is expected to develop advanced skills and to have the ability to work independently, with guidance limited to unusual or complex projects or issues. Employees in the Senior Engineer position are fully competent in the use of concepts and procedures. The Senior Engineer identifies problems, develops solutions and takes action to resolve.
Responsibilities
Demonstrates high conduct of safety culture (personal, nuclear and environmental).
The Catawba Design Engineering team manages the development and design of Capital funded plant modifications. Implementation support may also be required on some modifications.
For plant modifications, the individual will be responsible for developing the scope, technical basis, installation and testing requirements for plant modifications. Ongoing support of assigned engineering changes through work order reviews, corrective action program assignments, and field installation support activities is required.
Research engineering and design issues, evaluates alternatives, determines and presents recommendations to resolve issues.
Provide ongoing support of assigned engineering design changes through work order reviews, corrective action program assignments, and field installation support activities.
Develop or revise design specifications or technical requirements documents to support engineering design changes.
Develop or revise complex engineering calculations impacted by engineering design changes.
Develop safety screens and evaluations that support engineering design changes.
Revise site design basis documents, design drawings, and regulatory documents impacted by engineering design changes.
Lead or support Catawba Engineering during internal and external audits and inspections.
Basic Qualifications:
Nuclear Engineer III
Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program.
A Master 's degree in engineering will be considered in lieu of a Bachelor of Science in Engineering.
4 plus years' of engineering experience.
Senior Nuclear Engineer
Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program.
A Master's degree in engineering from an ABET accredited school will be considered in lieu of the B.S. Engineering degree.
Minimum of 6 years of engineering experience or 5 years of engineering experience with state registration as a Professional Engineer.

Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science in Civil or Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited program.
Proficient in engineering theories and principles.
Proficient in principles of project management.
Experience in the utility industry.
State registration as a Professional Engineer.
Strong background in Mechanics of Materials
Experience performing Finite Element Analysis
Working Knowledge of Structural Analysis software (ANSYS, GTStrudl, or similar)
Experience with Dynamic/Seismic Structural Analysis
Working level knowledge of Stress Analysis software programs (SuperPipe, AutoPipe, Caesar II).
Working knowledge of ASME Codes (examples: B31.1, Section III, Section IX, Section XI), AISC Steel Construction Codes (ASD, LFRD, and ACI Concrete Design Code).
Familiarity with Solidworks or equivalent 3D modeling software.
Experience with nuclear industry standard design process.
Specific Requirements
Minimum of 1 year of nuclear experience
In lieu of 1 year of nuclear experience, a selected candidate is subject to the oversight and written approval authority of a designated qualified individual until the selected candidate becomes fully qualified.
Able to achieve nuclear site Unescorted Access.
Willingness to work extended hours with changes in work schedule whenever necessary which at times could include call outs to support stations in an emergent condition.
This position may be required to have Emergency Response Organization (ERO) responsibilities which could include callouts with a defined response time to the site and an on-call duty rotation requiring the employee to be Fit for Duty.
Required to wear personal protective equipment (hardhat, safety glasses, fall protection, etc.) as needed.
Occasional overnight travel.

Typically, an office environment with some work in the plant to conduct system walkdowns and field support of modification implementation.
