QUALIFICATIONS:

Certification by Kentucky Department of Education with proper endorsements, plus responsible experience in teaching and supervision or administration, or any equivalent combination of experience or training.

REPORTS TO:

Superintendent of Schools and Principal

PRIMARY JOB GOAL:

To relieve the principal of such impediments which prevent him/her from fulfilling his/her chief responsibility of promoting the educational process and well-being of each student/staff member in the school; assists in the planning, organization, administration, and management of an elementary school; serves as an assistant principal for administration of an elementary school.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Comprehensive knowledge of principles and practices of modern public school elementary grades education and the ability to apply them to the needs of the school; knowledge of current curriculum and instructional practices; ability to plan, organize, and coordinate elementary school level education; ability to work a flexible schedule in order to meet the demands of the job; ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing; ability to develop effective working relationships with the entire school community; commitment to education reform; sufficient mobility to perform hall and school ground monitoring activities.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

-Maintains at all times an orderly learning atmosphere and keeps the Principal fully informed of the school's activities and problems.

-Assists the principal in the overall administration of the school.

-Serves as principal in the absence of the regular principal.

-Proposes schedules of classes and extracurricular activities.

-Supervises the preparation of student schedules.

-Assists the Principal in working with faculty/staff in compiling the annual budget requests; assists the Principal in presenting this information to the SBDM Council.

-Assists in the requisition of supplies, textbooks, and equipment; conducts inventories, maintains records, and checks on receipt of such materials.

-Cooperates in the conducting of safety inspections and safety drill practice activities.

-Shares with the Principal the responsibility for coordinating transportation, custodial, cafeteria, and other support services.

-Supervises the reporting and monitoring of student attendance, and works with the DPP for investigative follow-up activities.

-Assists in maintaining discipline throughout the student body, and deals with special cases as necessary.

-Serves with parent, faculty, student, and SBDM Council groups as requested in advancing education and related activities and objectives.

-Performs such record-keeping functions as the Principal may direct.

-Works with the district Federal Programs Coordinator and the Principal/SBDM Council on the assessment, planning, and implementation of the various federal programs.

-Serves on and/or chairs various committees both schoolwide and districtwide.

-Assists the Principal with completing the beginning teacher's Teacher Internship if there are at least three teacher interns in the building during a particular year.

-Performs related duties and assumes other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Principal and/or Superintendent.
