Summary
This position has the responsibility and accountability for the ongoing operations and overall management of the Sleep Disorders department. Other managerial responsibilities include planning and program development, training and supervision of staff, supervising daily operations, managing departmental budgets as well as capital expenditures, and marketing of services.
Responsibilities
(30%)* Audits and performs quality checks of sleep studies. Takes corrective action as appropriate.
(30%)* Consults with physicians and other healthcare professionals regarding testing procedures, service delivery, development of new and enhancement of existing programs, addressing department issues, etc.
(30%)* Provides ongoing training and supervision of staff regarding testing and interventional procedures, assures staff competencies with established standards, sets priorities, resolves problems and conflicts, meets and counsels with individual staff (as needed) and performs annual JPRs on or before due date.
(10%)* Manages day?to?day operations of the department and coordinates the workloads of the technical staff assuring minimal disruption in operations in the event of staff absences.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for planning, development, and implementation of Sleep Disorders Departments policies and procedures, annual goals and objectives, and performance improvement measures to assure quality, safety and customer satisfaction.
Responsible for long?range planning, new equipment acquisition, facility and/or departmental renovation/construction for department (includes development of proposals, capital project presentations, and project management.)
Conducts staff meetings presenting timely information and addressing staff issues.
Participates in and provides in?service education to meet the ongoing education needs to self, staff and
community.
Prepares annual operational budgets and monitors monthly revenue/expenditures and prepares monthly report discussing volume, revenue, expenses, and any variances.
Maintains an adequate inventory of supplies, coordinates purchases keeping within budgeted allocations, and monitors new processes to determine if there are ways to enhance revenue and/or reduce costs.
Assures department compliance with all accreditation standards including (but not limited to) Joint Commission and MDCH.

Participates in various hospital directed committees.

Basic knowledge in polysomnography and sleep disorders.

Overall vision and hearing are necessary with or without assisted device(s).
Frequently required to sit/stand/walk for long periods of time. May require frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling or crouching.
Some exposure to blood borne pathogens and other potentially infectious material. Must follow MyMichigan Health bloodborne pathogen and TB testing as required.
Ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, work independently, regular and predictable attendance and ability to stay awake.
Overall dexterity is required including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering and feeling. May require repetition of these movements on a regular to frequent basis.
