TITLE: Senior Mentor (Evenings and Weekends)

STATUS: Non-Exempt

SHIFT REQUIERMENTS: 40 Hrs per week

M-F 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM

SAT & SUN 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM

JOB SUMMARY: The Senior Mentor is responsible for the supervision, coaching and mentoring of residents during their daily activities while not in school. They supervise and provide a positive role model and for Mentors to follow in the provision of safe and excellent care of our residents.

Duties:

Develops positive relationships with Mentors & residents in accord with established LRA Policy & Procedure.

Can recognize potential behavioral problems and resolve issues before residents become escalated.

Skillfully uses approved de-escalation techniques to resolve any situation with residents.

Works with res/rec staff to plan appropriate activities.

Monitors and participates in recreational activities and ensures that program schedules are followed.

Attends daily change of shift meetings to ensure the proper flow of information.

Knows LRA safety and security policies and procedures. Takes proactive measures to identify and address safety concerns. Ensures that policy and procedures are enforced.

Actively participates in monthly treatment team meeting to address the progress of residents.

Verifies that Dorm Mentors are properly maintaining accurate head count records.

Follows AWOL process and procedures for any runaways.

Ensures and follows all safety precaution standards.

Ensures the care and cleanliness of designated dorms and common areas. Works with mentors and residents to ensure designated dorms and common areas are clean, safe and presentable.

Responsible for keeping their own and Dorm Teams In-Service training up to date.

Completes residents phase sheets and treatment goal progress.

Works with Shift Leader to identify and train mentors to be “Acting” Sr. Mentors on assigned dorm.

May function as Mentor, Senior Mentor of Shift Lead on other Dorms, as needed.

All job duties assigned to Mentors and any other job duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

HS Diploma.

Strong communication skills: Listening, Speaking and de-escalation.

One year plus of working in a mental/behavioral health setting.

Basic leadership skills

Be able to pass a background and fingerprint check.

Physical demands:

Under normal circumstances the employee will need to have the physical capacity to continuously use his/her hands for simple and firm grasping and fine manipulation. The employee may be required to do the following:

Physically able to bend, stand, stoop, or sit for long periods of time.

Lift and carry up to 50 lbs.

Push / Pull up to 100 lbs.

Possible restraining of escalated residents

Short periods of running
