I. POSITION SUMMARY
Setup, operate, adjust and maintain automatic mechanical type blanking press to produce steel parts used in the manufacture of filter products. May perform other duties as assigned.
III. NATURE & SCOPE
Champion Laboratories, Inc. is a full-line filter manufacturer with facilities located in Southern Illinois, South Carolina, Michigan, California, Europe and China. The sales and marketing operations of Champion Laboratories are headquartered in Albion, IL. Through the use of a direct sales force, independent manufacturer’s agents, and in some cases direct account responsibility, automotive, light truck, and heavy duty filters and related products are sold and distributed worldwide.
IV. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Interprets/completes various forms of paperwork including shop packets, scan tickets, inspection sheets, PPR’s, TPM’s, etc.
Transports various materials (dies, tubs, containers, finished product) to/from work area using forklift, cart, etc.
Sets up equipment, i.e., locates proper dies, uses forklift to transport and place die in press, secures dies in press by pushing/pulling heavy-weight die into position, aligns with tape measure, bolts/clamps into place using hand tools, and uses hoist to load reels of steel.
Operates automatic blanking press, i.e., feeds steel through metal straightener and into die/press, hand operates press to allow steel to feed through die, makes necessary adjustments to feed, speed, etc.; engages automatic operation, and closely monitors press operation making any adjustments required to equipment.
Using calipers, micrometers, and various measuring instruments, at prescribed intervals, performs quality checks, such as steel thickness and dimensions, on fabricated parts.
Initiates die maintenance sheet and works with Tool Room and/or maintenance personnel when required to adjust malfunctions and maintain dies/press in proper operating condition.
Responsible for safe and efficient operation of powered industrial equipment. Performs visual checks and maintains safety checklist; changes forklift batteries and/or refills LP gas tank as required.
Polices work area picking up and disposing of scrap, trash, etc., and performs general housekeeping tasks.
V. MINIMUM SELECTION CRITERIA
Communication:
Communicate with appropriate personnel about problems encountered while performing job responsibilities; in-person interaction with co-workers and supervisors.
Learning/Reading/Mathematical Comprehension:
Interpret/complete various forms of paperwork.
Comprehend prints showing part specifications.
Develop working knowledge of press to perform required setups and adjustments to equipment.
Use calipers and micrometer to ensure part quality.
Perform basic math functions such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
Visual Requirements:
Monitor operation of press to ensure equipment is running properly and parts conform to specifications.
Read various measuring devices. Visually locate materials in warehouse.
Visual capabilities as required by Powered Industrial Equipment Program to acquire license.
Motor Skills:
Hand-eye coordination to setup/adjust equipment using various hand tools, operate control/switches, use measuring devices, to feed steel through straightener, align/secure die in press, and operate motorized equipment etc.
Lift average weight materials occasionally; handles/pushes/pulls up to 50 lbs. frequently.
Stand/walk continually.
Frequently bend, push/pull and reach with hands and arms.
Special Skills:
Mechanical ability to safely and efficiently set-up, trouble-shoot, adjust and operate press.
Environment:
Work in an industrial environment with exposure to noise, possible temperature extremes, dirt, solvents, paper dust, etc.
Dependability:
Able to maintain satisfactory record of attendance and conduct. Able to work any shift and overtime as required.
Pay: $19.15 per hour.
