Schwab’s Corporate Actions and Balances, Positions & Transactions (CABPT) technology organization is recruiting to hire a results-oriented and talented Technology leader with a strong track record of technology-enabled business delivery. CABPT is part of the Core Brokerage Services Engineering (CBSE) which provides Asset Servicing, Custodial, Clearing and other Core Brokerage business capabilities to Schwab’s Retail and Institutional businesses. CABPT has a bimodal technology stack with a significant portion of its technology assets based on legacy mainframe technology and also a growing modern, distributed set of applications as we modernize.
CABPT is looking for a talented, highly motivated Technology Lead with domain/functional knowledge of Transactions posting, Positions and Balances area of the financial services/Brokerage industry, experience with high-volumes processing. The successful candidate excels in a dynamic and fast paced Agile environment and is passionate about building high quality scalable software. You should have significant experience in designing, development, testing software systems, providing support of deployed production application and enjoy sharing your knowledge.
We are seeking a well-experienced Mainframe Software Developer with skills and expertise in application Modernization, specifically with interfaces between Legacy mainframe and Distributed applications. In this role, you will be responsible for the architecture solution, design, development, and implementation of complex software solutions that support our CABPT processing capabilities.
Position Responsibilities:
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business requirements and identify opportunities for modernization
Familiarity with building interfaces between Legacy and modern distributed applications
Be able to contribute to solutions, Design and implementation of modernization strategies for legacy applications, including mainframe migration and refactoring, mainframe call-outs to Distributed platforms
Evaluate existing legacy systems and propose solutions for improving performance, scalability, and maintainability
Develop and maintain automated processes for legacy application, ensuring consistency and efficiency
Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends related to legacy application modernization
Effective communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with business stakeholders, platform teams, Architects and other domain teams
Ability to act as a mentor for the technical team, providing guidance, support, and knowledge sharing to other developers looking to augment their skill-sets with Mainframe and Distributed Technologies
Strong commitment to adhering to project timelines and delivering high-quality results within specified deadlines
Understanding of the importance of timely completion of tasks and projects, with a proactive approach to addressing any obstacles or challenges that may arise
What you have
Required Qualifications:
BS in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field
15+ years of experience in mainframe technologies inlcuding COBOL, JCL, DB2, Datacom, SQL, SQL Stored Procedures, Messaging Queues (IBM MQ, Kafka), CICS, Easytrieve, REXX and SORT utilities
15+ years of experience as a software developer, with at least 6+ years in a senior Technology Lead role
5+ years in tools such as Control-M, ChangeMan, FileAid, Startool, Xpeditor, TOAD, and SPUFI
Proven track record of leading the architecture solution, design & development of complex, enterprise-level software systems
Good knowledge and hands-on experience in Financial Industry – specifically with Brokerage Business and transactions processing/Balances/Positions – Books & Records systems
Strong understanding of software architecture patterns, design principles and scalability considerations
Excellent problem-solving, critical thinking, and decision-making skills
Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally
Experience in mentoring software development teams
Good experience with legacy applications modernization
Strong proficiency in and proven exposure to distributed technologies (e.g., Java, Javascript, .NET, C#, Springboot, MongoDB, Cloud, Postgres, etc.)
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with C#/.Net, Java, Springboot, GitHub and CI/CD processes and automation, testing automation
Some experience and familiarity with file transmissions, Cloud, SPOS, REST APIs, Callouts from Mainframe to Distributed services, KAFKA, KAFKA Connect, Security Tokens and authentication mechanisms
