Hardware Design Engineer Summary: Responsible for designing, developing, and testing computer hardware systems and peripherals to meet performance, manufacturability, and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities: Design, install, and test computer hardware components (e.g., circuit boards, microchips, modems, routers, keyboards). Upgrade existing systems for software compatibility and improved performance.
Create and interpret hardware design documentation, including blueprints and schematics.
Troubleshoot prototype and field issues; implement design modifications as needed.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams including software developers, QA, and support.
Select and evaluate hardware components based on product requirements.
Work with vendors to source new technologies and manage end-of-life components.
Conduct and support FCC, safety, and regulatory testing.
Generate and manage ECOs, MCOs, and DEV documentation.
Maintain and update BOMs with configuration management and supply chain teams.
Support engineering escalations by recreating and resolving hardware issues.
Create internal documentation and support customer documentation through Tech Pubs.
Set up and oversee testing at contract manufacturers.
Use lab equipment (e.g., oscilloscope) and layout tools for hardware validation and troubleshooting.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
5–7 years of relevant hardware design experience.
Proficiency with schematic capture and PCB layout tools.
Strong understanding of test methodologies, regulatory compliance, and vendor engagement.
