JOB SUMMARY

The Data Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, maintaining, and supporting robust data infrastructure and models that drive data-driven insights and decision-making across the organization. This includes architecting and maintaining complex computer database systems—both relational and multidimensional—while ensuring compliance with organizational standards and performance expectations. The role involves planning, coordinating, and implementing schedule updates to production data models to ensure data integrity and accuracy. The Data Engineer also develops and maintains accurate source data pipelines and supports effective electronic communication across systems. Acting as a liaison between internal stakeholders, software vendors, and technical teams, the engineer ensures alignment on data strategies and solutions. Additionally, the role leads data acquisition initiatives and identifies optimal platforms for data storage and retrieval. The Data Engineer is also responsible for designing and implementing scalable data environments for both cloud-based and on-premises infrastructures.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS

Architect, build, test, and maintain scalable BI platforms and data processes to support data analytics and visualization efforts across a variety of internal programs and partners. Ensure data systems are reliable, efficient, high-quality, and optimized for performance. Manage data ingestion, storage, modeling, and visualization in support of strategic insights.

Develop, update, and maintain operational and strategic reports, ensuring accuracy, relevance, and alignment with organizational goals.

Plan, coordinate, and implement regular updates to production data models. Perform system operation tests (SOT) prior to deployment to ensure the integrity of model databases and displays, validate data mappings, and ensure correct user interactions across devices.

Collaborate closely with stakeholders to create intuitive and impactful user experiences for dashboards and reporting tools.

Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders and end-users through direct communication, including on-site interactions. Provide regular updates and ensure clarity and responsiveness in addressing data needs.

Maintain comprehensive documentation of data models, updates, and displays to ensure a clear historical record for audits and internal tracking.

Maintain a thorough understanding of supported business functions and evolving processes. Align work with project management standards and organizational objectives.

Lead the implementation of data model updates, communicate progress with key stakeholders, and evaluate team resource utilization. Recommend improvements to enhance team effectiveness and performance.

Develop internal utilities and automated processes to streamline data workflows and improve productivity.

Create training materials and lead both formal and informal training sessions to support team development.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, information technology or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.

Minimum of two (2) years as a DBA, Data Engineer or Data Architect; or a minimum of five (5) years of work experience related to the Duties & Responsibilities of this position.

Experience building ETL/ELT processes (preferably with Azure Data Factory)

Experience designing and building data warehouses

Experience building reports and semantic models with Power BI

Experience with SQL

Ability to create, modify and deploy in Cloud a suite of Power BI reports, including DAX based scripts.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

Prior success in organizational transformation towards data-driven decision making through the build/deployment and adoption of data products under applicant’s leadership.

Relevant certifications (e.g. Cloud Computing, Data Warehousing, Database Management).

Master’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, information technology or related field.

Significant experience developing and deploying Cloud solutions, in Azure including use of the following tools: Azure Microservices (Logic Apps, Function Apps), Azure DevOps (GIT, CI/CD), Azure SQL (SQL, DDL, stored procedures); or equivalent alternatives.

Significant experience with REST APIs, both developing and invoking.

Experience using Postman or similar tools for prototyping and testing REST APIs

Experience in one or more programming languages including C#, Java, Python or similar

Understanding of the Power BI service security models to ensure necessary isolation and protection of private information.

Experience with Salesforce, ExtendedReach, Zoho, Blackbaud, and/or other CRM, Power BI and/or other business intelligence tools, case management, report building, dashboard, etc. products.

Experience in the non-profit, governmental and/or health and human services sector.
