Job Description: Controls Engineer (Automation)
Position Summary:
The controls engineer designs, develops and implements control systems and automated solutions for industrial processes. They will be expected to design systems from scratch that integrate sophisticated technologies such as plural component fluid mix systems, intelligent assembly tools, robotics and more. This engineer is expected to adhere to required safety and quality standards for all custom designed equipment, they will ensure safe work practices are designed into all processes. They will analyze user requirements, procedures, schematics and functional specifications for automation systems. The controls engineer is expected to interact with coworkers from all levels of the organization in cross-functional teams to achieve collective goals.
Key Accountabilities:
Provide pre-sale support to Specialists and Account Managers. This includes, but is not limited to the following:
Quoting custom solutions or support
Providing concept drawings for sales support
Project design reviews, internal and external
Travel to customer locations for onsite project review / sales process support
Provide support for Projects team. This includes, but is not limited to the following:
Create equipment drawings and schematics for manufacturing and assembly
Create bills of materials for custom equipment
Engage in project reviews that include required engineering data and documentation
Create, develop and maintain PLC and HMI programs
Participate in the building and assembly of equipment (Hands on environment)
Document projects with “as-built” drawings, schematics and instruction manuals
Assist the Project Management department with scheduling, providing bills of materials, drawings and required documentation for each project
Travel to customer locations to participate in installation, start-up and training of specialized equipment
Provide post-sale support to Field Service Technicians with troubleshooting custom equipment and advanced products
Stay up to date with the latest equipment technologies and industry trends
Prepare detailed reports for each project, including maintaining an expense report and recording labor hours
Cross-train in other disciplines of the organization as needed
Perform additional duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Experience with the design, assembly and installation of specialized equipment
Training or experience with programming PLCs and HMIs from the ground up (Allen Bradley, Siemens etc.)
Knowledge of varied sensor technologies, control devices and controls signals
Able to design and specify Electrical and Pneumatic Control Panels using CAD software
Knowledge of Electrical cabinet design and Electrical codes preferred
Strong written and verbal communication skills are required
3+ years of experience in a Controls programming required
Self-motivated, innovative and flexible personality
Experience in robotic programming (Fanuc) preferred
Skilled with various types of Industrial Automation
