Title: Assistant Head Custodian - Yankton High School

Job Description: A custodian with the skills and ability to perform housekeeping and maintenance duties in a given building area. Must have the ability to act as a building staff foreman when the head custodian is not available. Under the supervision and direction of the High School Head Custodian and the Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds.

Criteria:

A. Education Level: One year certificate from college or technical school; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

B. Experience Desired: Three to six months related experience or training

C. Physical Requirements: Good physical health including ability to lift 75 pounds, climb to high and difficult places and work at those places. Constant hand-eye and mind-eye coordination, standing and walking. Repetitive motion with wrists, hands and fingers. Frequent bending, carrying, hearing, lifting, pushing and stooping. Occasional climbing, crawling and reaching.

Essential Functions and Duties:

1. Sweeps, mops, scrubs, and vacuums classrooms, hallways, stairs and office space.

2. Monitors HVAC system.

3. Weekend building checks.

4. Schedules custodial services for events

5. Empties school trash and garbage containers.

6. Maintains building, performing minor and routine painting, plumbing, electrical wiring, and other related maintenance activities.

7. Replaces air conditioner filters.

8. Notifies management concerning need for major repairs or additions to lighting, heating, and ventilating equipment.

9. Cleans snow and debris from sidewalk.

10. Communicates with Building Principals for daily activities.

Reports To: High School Head Custodian and Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds

Receives Guidance From: Building Principals

Working Conditions:

A. Indoors and Outdoors

B. Climatic Environment and Hazards: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
