Job duties: Participate in all stages of product design, development and documentation (concept through manufacturing) for new and current mechatronic product components; Provide leadership in mechatronic design and development activities between the customer and employer’s internal departments; Maintain the design integrity of one or more existing product designs; Coordinate, execute, schedule, and control projects to achieve cost, manufacturability, and design requirements by creating / utilizing engineering tools and documentation (BOM, DVPR, FMEA, Control Plans etc.); Take action necessary to develop alternatives to problems and/or schedule delays; resolve problems with customers and internal departments and recommend ways to recover project time lost; Participate in formulating the engineering strategy on estimating the cost of product designs and applications; Assist in the preparation of engineering cost analysis for customer inquiry and company product; Assist in the preparation of information packages, drawings, mock-up and product samples to demonstrate the company technical capability to customers, suppliers and internal functions; Support sales and marketing with technical assistance including customer product applications, problem resolution and customer presentations; Document ideas for purposes of patent protection and provide product information for patent documentation purposes; Use and recommend analytical studies of motion, stress, forces and tolerance stack up to assure product function and reliability (e.g., FMEA); Achieve an acceptable product design through the use of CAD Engineering Software; Ensure that an approved detailed drawing package is provided of final product design; Initiate and monitor the assembly of prototypes and resolve design problems and document changes; Initiate product manuals and engineering change notices (ECN's) per procedure; Investigate new technologies in the industry and consult with suppliers to obtain latest technology information; Perform benchmark analyses on employer’s mechatronic products compared to competitor products and assess value-add of components and design features; Participate in qualifying and approving suppliers and hardware; Participate in continuous improvement programs and provide support to team efforts; Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, formal training, reviewing professional publications, establishing and expanding professional networks, and participating in professional societies; Comply with all IATF 16949 policies and procedures; Act as mentor and guide to less senior Team Members; and Perform other duties as assigned. A hybrid (in-office and telecommute) work schedule is available. Position requires travel up to 15% to domestic and 10% travel internationally. Travel is required to our global HQ in Diephloz, Germany for train ang workshops. There will also be travel requirements to suppliers for program follow up and to the employer's manufacturing location.
7 years of experience in engineering design in a mechatronic engineering environment and leading technical projects, and demonstrated experience with: 2D/3D design using CATIA and Siemens NX software; GD&T methods and tolerance stacks study analysis; FEA methods and results analysis; Shifter and Actuator technology; Design of Class-A surfaces; Enovia PLM; Kinematics Studies and analysis; and SAP.
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or closely related field
