Job Summary/Objective
The EMR Technician is responsible for managing medical records within the electronic medical records (EMR) system. Primary duties include answering department phones, assisting patient and other staff walk-ins, securely releasing information in compliance with privacy regulations, scanning and entering data, verifying accuracy, analysis of EMR data, and generating reports. The position ensures the integrity of medical data and supports department functions through accurate data entry and management. This position will also serve as the main Release of Information contact. Two years HIM and EMR experience is preferred.
Essential Functions
Answers department phones and assists with the release of information for internal and external requests of information.
Manage and maintain patient medical records within the EMR system.
Scan and upload physical records into the electronic system, ensuring accuracy and proper organization.
Verify entered data for completeness and correctness.
Generate and distribute reports from the EMR system as requested
Release medical records securely and appropriately, adhering to hospital policies and privacy regulations.
Monitor and resolve discrepancies in medical record documentation.
Provide support in audits or reviews involving medical records.
Adhere to all HIPAA regulations and hospital protocols to ensure the confidentiality and security of patient data.

Proficiency in EMR systems and medical record management software.
Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and data accuracy.
Ability to generate and interpret reports.
Knowledge of HIPAA guidelines and other relevant privacy regulations.

Education and Licensure Requirements
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Experience Requirements
Experience in medical recordkeeping or health information management preferred.
Familiarity with EMR systems and data entry processes preferred.
Working Conditions
Office environment with frequent use of a computer and scanner.
May require occasional lifting of files or equipment up to 20 lbs.
Frequent sitting with occasional walking or standing.
