The role of the Certified Medication Aide involves delivering personalized care and support to community residents based on their individualized service and care plans. Working under the guidance of the Resident Care Director or Assistant Resident Care Director, they are certified to administer medications and offer routine wellness services to residents, adhering closely to established nursing care protocols and following the supervisor’s directives.

SALARY: $16.25 / hour

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

Graduate from high school or equivalent preferred.

Completion of a certification program for Certified Nurse Aides is required.

Must be a Certified Nurse Aide with a Medication Aide permit (required)

Previous CNA experience required.

Demonstrated knowledge of HIPAA and Protected Health Information

Good understanding of the nursing process, strong clinical skills in administering medications and performing treatments, and a strong understanding of fire, safety and infection control procedures.

The candidate must be professional, establish and maintain a good rapport with residents and family members, and handle emotionally charged situations professionally.

Demonstrated knowledge of standard medical abbreviations, symbols, and terms related to administering medications used by the community, pharmacists, and physicians.

Experience working with older people is desirable.

Excellent communication, interpersonal and customer service skills

Must maintain a safe and healthy work environment and use safe work methods and procedures by company clinical standards.

Excellent people skills with a patient, compassionate and friendly attitude

Must recognize emergencies and life-threatening situations and initiate appropriate actions as established by the company.

Ability to convey a positive and professional image to residents, family members, visitors and co-workersESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Tasks may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Responsible for the safe administration of medications ensuring the six rights of medication administration are followed.

Must follow established guidelines concerning medication storage and management.

Obtains vital signs, records them, and notifies the supervising nurse of deviations per the Individual Service Plan (ISP).

Performance of prescribed treatments following facility policy and procedures.

Meet regularly with the Resident Care Director to discuss plans, highlights, unique challenges, and required support.

Obtain a physician’s order before initiating treatments or changes in treatments.

Report changes in resident’s status to the manager, such as hospitalizations, discharges, and physical appointments.

Provide accurate and timely documentation consistent with the plan of care.

Utilizes standard precautions and infection control procedures.

Follows the resident’s individual service plans as directed. Follows the daily task sheets developed for each resident.

Follows written instructions, requests assistance, and further instructions with new or unfamiliar situations.

Observe and report changes in the resident’s functional status and report to the Resident Care Director and Care Staff.

May supervise Caregivers & CNAs in the delivery of planned resident care.

Complete annual required training as outlined in company policies.

Actively participate in the orientation and development of Caregivers.

Assists the resident in daily routines, including personal care and housekeeping tasks.

May assist with the following:

Personal hygiene (bathing, grooming, hair care, shaving, skin care)

Change bed linens and make bed Toileting and Incontinent Care Nutritional and fluid intake

Dressing Ambulation and transfers Positioning Medication reminders

May provide basic First Aid or wound care per physician orders or community protocol.

Reports observations and other pertinent information related to the resident's care, including changes in the resident’s status and home situation.

Provides services that support the care delivered to the resident and review care plans daily to determine if changes in the daily care routine have been made.

Provides input in the formulation and evaluation of standards of care.

Participates in the identification of staff educational needs.

Conducts self in a professional manner in compliance with community policies.

Assists the Resident in maintaining a safe and clean environment by surveying the Resident’s room for safety and removing all soiled linens from rooms. Bed linens, towels, and washcloths are to be changed as necessary.

Performs routine checks on residents.

Maintains that all resident call lights are promptly answered, followed by appropriate responses to requests.

Exhibits a caring and respectful attitude toward residents and the resident’s property.

Assist with activities and encourage resident engagement and participation.

Attend bi-weekly in-service meetings and mandatory meetings.

Adheres to all community and company policies.

Maintains confidentiality of all pertinent resident care information (uphold the confidentiality of residents and coworkers, HIPAA)

May administer oxygen after completing a course or training in oxygen administration per physician orders or community protocol.

Performs other duties as assigned by the Resident Care Director, LVN/LPN or the General Manager
