The City of Lenexa Parks & Recreation Department is looking for a knowledgeable and client-focused Personal Trainer to join our Lenexa Rec Center team. We’re seeking someone who is passionate about fitness, committed to helping others reach their goals, and dedicated to creating a welcoming and professional training environment.
Position Summary
This position is responsible for delivering safe, effective, and individualized fitness instruction to a diverse range of clients. Personal Trainers conduct fitness assessments, design tailored workout plans, and motivate participants to pursue healthier lifestyles in a supportive and professional setting.
Schedule
This is a part-time position with a variable schedule. Hours will range from 5 to 20 per week and are scheduled based on client needs. Evening and weekend availability are required.
Key Responsibilities
Provide exercise instruction, motivation, and guidance to Rec Center patrons on the fitness floor.
Conduct and evaluate client fitness assessments.
Plan, lead, and adapt client-specific training sessions and small group programs.
Monitor and adjust training programs as client needs evolve, maintaining accurate records of sessions and progress.
Maintain familiarity with and promote safe practices in fitness equipment use, sanitation, and facility protocols.
Serve as a first responder in case of emergencies at the facility.
Participate in personal training meetings and team staff meetings.
Represent the Rec Center in a professional, courteous manner and support department programs as assigned.
Assist with presentations, team projects, and support additional related opportunities within scope.
Qualifications
Minimum:
High school diploma or G.E.D.
At least one year of personal training experience and one or more years of customer service experience.
Current nationally recognized personal training certification or a degree in a health/science-related field.
Must have or obtain First Aid/CPR/AED certification within 60 days of hire.
Preferred:
Associate or Bachelor’s degree in kinesiology, exercise science, or a closely related field.
Certifications in nutrition, sports performance, or weight management.
Starting rate of pay is $24.50 per hour.
Environment and Physical Factors
This position is performed indoors in a fitness center environment with frequent exposure to loud noise, varied temperatures, and humid conditions. Physical demands include walking, standing, reaching, lifting up to 50 lbs., and demonstrating exercises. The role requires manual dexterity, flexibility, and visual acuity to monitor technique and ensure participant safety. Occasional climbing, bending, and kneeling are required.
