POSITION: Student Financial Aid Advisor – Bachelor’s Degree Focus
Description of Duties: The Financial Aid Advisor for Bachelor's Degree Programs is responsible for empowering students pursuing their Bachelor's degrees by providing comprehensive guidance and support in navigating the financial aid process, ensuring access to resources that enable their academic success. Guide students through the entire financial aid process for Bachelor's degree programs, including completing the FAFSA, collecting necessary documentation (verification, credentials, etc.), and assisting students in completing all necessary documentation. Determine the amount of funding that each student is eligible to receive (e.g., applying formulas, understanding different aid types) based on the results of their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Verify student eligibility and ensure accurate disbursement of financial aid funds in accordance with federal and institutional policies. Administer the Federal Direct Student Loan Program ensuring all federal regulations and loan limits are met (e.g., counseling students on loan options, managing loan origination and disbursement). Collaborate effectively with key departments (enrollment, admissions, academic divisions, etc.) to support students throughout their academic journey, addressing enrollment, withdrawal, financial aid processing, and resolving related issues. Ensure compliance with all federal and institutional financial aid regulations, including developing and maintaining policies and procedures, conducting quality assurance and internal audits, and preparing required reports for bachelor’s programs. Maintain current knowledge of changes in financial aid regulations. Utilizing the student information system (PeopleSoft) effectively for financial aid processing. Serve on various committees as needed and as assigned by the Senior Director of Financial Aid. Regular attendance is an essential function of this position. Attend conferences, seminars and workshops. Possible out of state travel. Perform other related duties as assigned. May supervise part-time or work-study employees. Work under general supervision of and receive training and guidelines from the Senior Director of Financial Aid.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Finance, Business or related field. One year of experience in a Higher Education setting, preferably in student services or financial aid. Good oral and written communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. Strong proficiency with computers and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel). Demonstrated experience using student information systems, with significant experience or a strong working knowledge of PeopleSoft preferred, for financial aid processing and record-keeping. Light lifting up to 10 lbs. and light carrying up to 10 lbs. required. Ability to reach above shoulder. Periods of time spent sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, bending and stooping.
Desired Qualifications: Master’s Degree. One to two years of experience working directly in Financial Aid Office.
