The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum is seeking a dedicated AV Field Engineer to support the operation, maintenance, and enhancement of audiovisual (AV) systems across the museum's exhibits, theaters, classrooms, and special event spaces. This position plays a critical role in ensuring high-quality AV experiences for both in-person and virtual audiences, supporting the museum's mission to engage and educate the public.
The AV Field Engineer will be responsible for the setup, operation, and troubleshooting of AV systems during events, exhibits, and daily museum operations. Collaboration with internal teams and external contractors is essential to deliver seamless AV solutions for museum visitors, staff, and virtual participants. The principal location is in Washington, but sometimes needs to travel to Maryland's facilities.
Responsibilities
Conduct daily inspections of permanent and temporary exhibit AV systems to ensure proper functionality.
Power on AV systems and confirm readiness for public use.
Set up AV systems for classrooms, conference rooms, and museum spaces, including laptops, video conferencing, audio recording, and portable sound systems.
Operate and manage AV setups for meetings and presentations.
Record events upon request.
Configure captioning equipment and manage audio levels for live and streamed audiences.
Set up multi-camera views for live-streaming, with possible social media integration.
Manage audience microphones and support PowerPoint presentations.
Coordinate with museum staff and assist external AV crews with their setups in museum theaters.
Provide AV support for after-hours and weekend events, including setup and operation of robotic cameras, video switchers, and other AV systems.
Support AV operations at the museum's Maryland facility.
Set up and provide technical support for video conferences.
Manage video conferencing through online portals.
Configure streaming software and manage live-stream events.
Assist staff with technical needs during webcasts.
Record, compress, and distribute event recordings internally to relevant stakeholders.
Support the planning, installation, and maintenance of AV systems for new temporary exhibits, which typically rotate every 2-3 years.
Perform routine maintenance on AV systems, including projector bulb replacements.
Maintain an updated inventory of AV equipment and supplies.
Assist with the installation of projectors, monitors, and other AV equipment as needed.
Qualifications
3 to 5 years of experience in live event production or integrated AV systems.
CTS certification or equivalent work experience required.
Willingness to support events outside regular hours (early mornings, evenings, weekends).
Knowledge of major AV vendor hardware and product functionality.
Experience with Crestron or similar show control systems.
Proficiency in programming audio DSPs (Biamp, Crestron, or QSC) is desirable.
Familiarity with video switchers and analog/digital audio consoles (A1).
Ability to read and interpret AV system flow diagrams and documentation.
Experience supporting video conference meetings with multiple participants.
Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to work independently.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Driven, methodical, and able to multitask under tight deadlines.
Ability to lift and install AV equipment (e.g., projectors, monitors).
