Part-Time Work Schedule
Office hours are Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. The incumbent will work a set schedule totaling 20 hours per week based upon seasonal workload. Be advised that some evenings and weekends will be required.
Position Overview
Incumbent will play role in assisting with educational programming, provide technical services, provide customer service, assist with office duties, and the annual meeting.
Contractor may also manage daily/monthly/yearly tasks such as experience allows and oversee files, reports, office calendar, supplies, mail, promotional materials, documents and reports, website updates and social media.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities as assigned.
Customer Service
· Greets incoming customers and answers telephone calls; assists visitor or directs them to appropriate resources, research questions and returns calls.
· Oversee program registration and maintain participant contact information.
· Consistently update and maintain separate contact lists for program participants, farmers, and teachers etc. to be used as contacts to e-mail, or mail program flyers, information, meetings, educational information or environmental news.
· Assists customers with 39degrees north website, soil survey book, as well as maps which include topographical, and flood plain.
· Manage and report office rental equipment: Truax no till seed drills and Puller Bear invasive plant tool. This may include maintenance, repairs and storage. Assist with records for equipment use including rental calendar, contracts for equipment used, purpose of use, location, and acreage of use.
· Create flyers, news media, news briefs, articles etc. to inform the public about SWCD happenings.
· Create and maintain marketing and outreach messages for social media, newspaper, website, etc. The purpose is to assist in growing program participation and registration, customer service base, and identify resource concerns as well as offer educational opportunities and bring awareness to those concerns.
Annual Meeting
· Assist with the Annual Meeting preparations; contact affiliate members; recognition awards; table decoration, coordinates invitations and publicity; acknowledgments and thank you letters as well as other items deemed necessary.
SWCD Office
· Works with the District Director and Invasive Species Specialist as needed to help in preparation for and scheduling of programs including those associated with the Morgan County Recycling Department, Purdue Extension, and Morgan County Partnership for Water Quality.
· Has the ability to be professional, flexible, and collaborate in a busy office and or educational setting.
· Maintains inventory of supplies and publications—and orders supplies needed.
· All other duties requested by the SWCD Board or District Staff.
General Responsibilities
· Events: Assists with the coordination of Board approved events; for example with the preparation of District tours, fundraising, field days, conservation contests and similar activities as requested by the SWCD Board.
· Publications: Assists with the preparation of newsletters; prepares copies and folds newsletters; affixes mailing labels and mails/emails newsletters as applicable.
· Collaborative Partners: Has a familiarity of our working relationships with those organizations with which we collaborate including the scope of responsibility of these organizations and the programs for which they are responsible:
o Indiana State Soil and Water Conservation District (IASWCD)
o Morgan County Native and Invasive Plant Partnership (MCNIPP)
o People Helping Improve Soil Health (PHISH)
o Morgan County Recycling
o Surveyor’s Office-Morgan County Partnership for Water Quality (MCPWQ)
o Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS)
o Indiana Department of Agriculture
o Purdue Cooperative Extension Service
o Department of Natural Resources (DNR)
o Public and private schools in Morgan County.
· Farming/Conservation Practices: Become familiar with farming and conservation practices such as terracing, strip cropping, tiling, grass waterways, riparian buffer strips, land leveling, tree planting, cover crops, watershed management, etc. Be at ease and able to communicate well with farmers, landowners, and conservationists.
Education/Experience
· Minimum of High School Diploma/GED
· Minimum of 3 years of experience in the field of conservation, education, or other related field.
Skill Set Preference
· Experienced and skilled with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point and Publisher) as well as social media and website software.
· Working knowledge of Standard English grammar, spelling, and punctuation, and ability to prepare detailed written reports and maintain accurate and organized files and records.
· Ability to provide public access to or maintain confidentiality of department information and records according to state requirements.
· Ability to work alone with minimum supervision and with others in a team environment.
· Ability to competently serve the public with diplomacy and respect.
· This position is a contractual position, and the incumbent will adhere to the contract and must follow the direction of the Morgan County SWCD Supervisory board and the District Director.
License or Certificates
· A valid Indiana driver’s license and a history of a safe driving record is required.
· Must be able to obtain an approved criminal history verification to work within a school setting.
Working Conditions and Physical Demands
Incumbent will perform duties mostly in office, and occasionally in public or school setting, and outdoor environment during all seasons and all types of weather. Physical demands include standing, walking, typing, and sitting for long periods. Must be able to lift 25 pounds, requires ability to maneuver heavy materials frequently.
