Essential Functions Include:
Provides nursing care for patients under veterinary supervision
Ensures proper use and safekeeping of medications and supplies
Assists in maintaining medical equipment
Helps maintain electronic medical records and other paperwork accurately
Represents the practice professionally in dealing with clients, referring veterinarians, vendors and co-workers.
Key Responsibilities:
Carry out orders by veterinarians and carefully monitor patients
Be proficient in taking digital x-rays with proper positioning and restraint of animal
Draws blood samples and collects stool and urine samples
Performs laboratory tests, i.e. CBC, chemistries, urinalysis, etc.
Places IV catheters and monitors IV fluid administration
Administers and monitors anesthetics
Prepares IV medications following necessary safety procedures
Prepares animals for procedures and assists veterinarians with procedures
Assures patients are kept as clean and comfortable as possible
Follow proper procedures for the administration of drugs including documentation for controlled substances
Operate within OSHA standards with a focus on safety for patients, clients, and co-workers
Be prepared to act in an emergency situation
Accurately fill prescriptions and carefully handle medications for proper inventory control
Prepare treatment plan estimates and deliver them to clients
Compassionately educates clients on their pet’s treatment options and explains treatment plans
Keep animal care areas clean and clutter-free
Actively pursue additional training and education by reading journals and participating in rounds
Attend team and staff meetings; contribute ideas and constructive feedback
Model exceptional care and service for clients, pet owners, and referring veterinarians
Self-starter and able to take direction from veterinarians and practice managers
Ability to multi-task and keep the flow efficient for internal medicine, cardiology, and/or radiology
Aid veterinarians in achieving greater efficiency by relieving them of technical work and administrative detail
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent. Prefer a CVT but will consider technicians based on experience.
Experience:1-2 years experience as a veterinary technician in a veterinary hospital preferred.
Physical Requirements:
Able to be active, sitting, walking, standing, kneeling, and stooping for long periods of time
Able to bend at waist and knees repeatedly throughout shift
Can push, and pull, has full use of hands/fingers, and reach above shoulders for an extended period of time
Must be able to lift 50 pounds
Able to work well under pressure and at high levels of stress
Hearing, vision, and speech at a functional level
Exposure to supplies commonly used in a hospital setting such as anesthetic gases and radiation within appropriate OSHA standards
Risk of injury from animals
Person must be flexible with hours M-F between the hours of 7:30am and 7pm. Employee must be willing to travel to multiple locations to cover sick and vacation time.
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Salary: $17.00 - $21.00 per hour based on experience, position and travel abilities
