Responsibilities
We are seeking an experienced Bridge Inspector to perform field inspections on highway bridge construction and rehabilitation projects.
The inspector will be responsible for verifying that all bridge-related construction activities conform to contract documents, structural specifications, safety standards, and applicable inspection procedures.
This position involves fieldwork in active construction zones, coordination with contractors, and daily documentation of progress.
Perform inspection of bridge components including abutments, piers, decks, bearings, joints, parapets, approach slabs, and structural steel
Monitor concrete and steel placement, falsework, formwork, and related construction activities
Verify compliance with approved shop drawings, specifications, and field orders
Inspect structural welding, bolting, reinforcing steel, and post-tensioning (where applicable)
Observe pile driving, foundation installation, and bearing seat construction
Ensure quality control of materials and workmanship used in bridge construction
Track quantities, document field activity, and complete daily inspection reports
Coordinate with field engineers, contractors, and project managers to resolve site issues
Monitor traffic control and safety measures in and around bridge work zones
Assist with punch list inspections and project close-out documentation
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical or engineering coursework preferred
Minimum of 5 years of bridge or structural inspection experience on transportation projects
Certifications in Bridge Safety Inspection, ACI Concrete Field Testing, and relevant structural inspection credentials
Strong understanding of bridge construction methods, materials, and inspection standards
Ability to interpret structural plans, shop drawings, and contract specifications
Proficiency in daily reporting, documentation, and communication with construction teams
Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to field sites across the region
Preferred Qualifications:
NICET Level II or III in Transportation/Structural Inspection
Experience inspecting projects built under state DOT or FHWA oversight
Knowledge of traffic control standards and safety procedures in bridge construction zones
Experience with digital field documentation platforms
