POSITION TITLE: Certified Pharmacy Technician-Inpatient

STATUS: Part Time (R1 Status 40hrs/pay period)

DAY/SHIFT/HOURS: Day/Afternoon shift rotation

7am-3:30pm, 8am-4:30pm, 2:30pm-11pm

Weekends every 2 weeks, 3-4 holidays per year

Summary Duties and Responsibilities:

Procures and distributes medication orders per physician request, pharmacist request or prearranged work assignment according to established policies, procedures and protocols.

Fills physician orders, medication kits, automated drug dispensing units and stock requisitions accurately.

Replenishes medications in emergency drug crash carts and trays.

Prepares intravenous admixtures and other sterile preparations safely and accurately using appropriate techniques.

Delivers medications and supplies to patient care and ancillary areas accurately per established schedule.

Maintains adequate stock of medications and supplies according to established policies and procedures.

Assists in ordering, receiving unpacking and storing medications and supplies in appropriate locations.

Identifies and replaces outdated and unusable medications.

Repackages bulk medications in unit-dose packages safely and accurately.

Enters charges and credits for patient medications accurately when needed.

Completes all education and competencies as assigned.

Education:

High School Diploma or GED required.

Completion of a formal pharmacy technician training program preferred.

Certifications:

Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) verified through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB).

Registration as a Certified Pharmacy Technician with the Ohio Board of Pharmacy is preferred.

Registration as a Registered Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Technician Trainee will be considered with the condition that registration as a Certified Pharmacy Technician with the Ohio Board of Pharmacy is required within 6 months.

Complexity of Work:

Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.

Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

Work Experience:

Three years of pharmacy technician experience in an inpatient hospital environment or equivalent environment preferred.

Physical Requirements:

Typical physical demands include ability to perform the job while standing, reaching, stretching, and sitting for prolonged periods; manual dexterity sufficient to perform computer, dispensing functions of the job; ability to lift up to 20 lbs.

While walking, stooping, bending and reaching; ability to transport 240 lb. cart.

Personal Protective Equipment:

Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
