Senior Accountant

Denmark Foods, as part of Hempler Foods Group, is a fresh food production facility in Peoria AZ. Since 1987, Denmark Foods has been providing fresh sausage and meats to grocers and food service companies. Whether it’s pork, chicken, or beef, we are committed to quality, premium, meats being sold in retailers, restaurants, ball clubs, and various stores throughout the west.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The primary purpose of this position is to ensure timely and accurate fiscal period closing, financial reporting and adherence to financial controls. This position will also be responsible for cost analysis, financial planning and analysis, and the timely entry of various journal entries and corresponding account reconciliations.
SCHEDULE: Monday – Friday 7:00am – 4:00pm, flexible with schedule.
WAGE: $80,000.00 - $95,000.00 annually, subject to all required taxes and withholdings.
No relocation
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Financial Reporting:
Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with GAAP.
Assist in the preparation of the balance sheet and income statement, including review of manufacturing-related accounts.
Provide in-depth analysis and explanations for significant financial fluctuations and discrepancies.
General Ledger and Month-End Close:
Oversee the general ledger and ensure proper recording of manufacturing transactions.
Manage the month-end close process for manufacturing costs and inventory transactions.
Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and intercompany transactions.
Inventory Management:
Coordinate quarterly physical inventories.
Monitor inventory levels and costing methods, ensuring accurate reporting and valuation of inventory.
Work with the procurement and operations teams to reconcile physical inventory counts to the general ledger.
Internal Controls & Compliance:
Ensure compliance with company and corporate policies, internal controls, and applicable accounting regulations.
Assist with audits and support external auditors with necessary documentation and explanations.
Process Improvement:
Identify and implement improvements to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of accounting processes.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to streamline reporting processes and optimize cost control measures.
Special Projects:
Assist with various ad hoc financial and accounting projects, including product profitability analysis, capital expenditure reviews, and financial forecasting.
Prepare and analyze standard cost reports and variance analysis.
Maintain accurate records for work-in-progress, raw materials, and finished goods inventory.
Ensure accurate costing of products and manufacturing overheads.
Assist in the development and maintenance of cost models for new products and production processes.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Assist with intercompany accounting as requested. Reconciliation of transactions with sister companies of Premium Brands.
Assisting with projects and document processes and procedures within accounting department
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field
CPA or CMA preferred
5+ years previous general accounting and/or audit experience preferred, with 2-3 years in manufacturing or cost accounting
Experience with ERP systems in a manufacturing environment preferred.
Experience with financial forecasting and budgeting in a manufacturing setting preferred.
Knowledge of lean manufacturing and cost-saving initiatives preferred.
Strong understanding of GAAP, IFRS, and manufacturing accounting principles.
Proficient in accounting and ERP software (e.g., QuickBooks, Aptean, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar).
Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, data analysis).
Proficient in business suite software (MS Office, Teams, Onestream, Kepion).
Analytical Skills: Strong ability to analyze financial data and generate actionable insights.
Communication Skills: Ability to communicate complex financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy in work and ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
