UX Researcher - Accessibility Focus
Are you passionate about creating inclusive and accessible digital experiences that empower Veterans? We're seeking a talented Mid- to Senior-Level UX Researcher to join our team. You'll play a vital role in conducting user research, identifying accessibility barriers, and driving innovative, user-centered design solutions that comply with VA standards and guidelines.
Responsibilities:
Conduct User Research: Gather insights and identify areas for improvement through user research and usability testing, ensuring alignment with the needs of diverse Veteran populations.
Champion Accessibility: Ensure compliance with accessibility standards (WCAG, ADA, Section 508) throughout the product lifecycle, adhering to the VA's specific requirements and guidelines.
Develop Guidelines: Create and maintain comprehensive accessibility guidelines and best practices, contributing to the VA Design System and Content Style Guide.
Collaborate with Teams: Work closely with designers, developers, product managers, and VA stakeholders to integrate accessibility considerations into the design, development, and deployment of digital solutions.
Conduct Audits: Regularly assess products for accessibility using industry-standard tools and VA-specific requirements, providing actionable recommendations for remediation.
Communicate Insights: Clearly convey usability and accessibility findings to stakeholders, including VA personnel, to drive informed decision-making.
Advocate for accessibility principles within the team and the organization, fostering a culture that prioritizes user needs and complies with VA's mission.
Stay Updated: Keep abreast of emerging trends, best practices, and technologies in UX, accessibility, and relevant VA standards.
Train and Support: Provide training and support to team members on accessibility principles, inclusive design methodologies, and VA-specific accessibility requirements.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in HCI, UX Design, Computer Science, or a related field.
6+ years of experience in UX research and design with a strong focus on accessibility analysis and inclusive design.
Strong understanding of user-centered design principles and methodologies.
In-depth knowledge of accessibility standards and guidelines (WCAG, ADA, Section 508) and their practical application.
Proficiency in UX design and research tools (e.g., Sketch, Figma, Adobe XD) and accessibility evaluation tools (e.g., Axe, WAVE, JAWS).
Experience with user research methodologies, including ethnographic studies, qualitative and quantitative research.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate research findings into actionable design recommendations.
Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex information to diverse audiences.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, agile environment.
Relevant certifications (e.g., CPACC) a plus.
Experience working with government agencies, particularly the VA, and familiarity with VA design systems and style guides is a strong plus.

Must be able to comply with VA security and privacy training requirements.
